Why do I keep looking at craigslist for bikes when I am not even on the market?
I mean I can't even afford to get one if I saw a great deal. Yet, I always make a point to check craigslist.
Makes no sense whatsoever.
You guys/gal do this as well ?
same boat....trust me...I understand...I justify it by saying to myself I am just looking at pricing trends to see what it what and all....
I do. Even if I could afford it I wouldn't due to the issues another bike would lead to. Yesterday I was talking to someone who scored a '93 (i think) 750 vfr that was in good shape (ish). That's why we look.
I'm not in the market but look weekly. There's always a score to be had. [evil]
Can't afford it yet but always looking at the fs here. Also do it on the lotus forum since im getting one once we move
It's worth checking so that you know the going rates for bikes in case you suddenly are in the market. ;)
I am doing the same thing with cars right now. I really need a new car know I don't have the money for it. I just keep torturing myself though and keep looking.
oh, good. I thought I was the only one who did that.

i do it with motorcycles, dj gear, photography gear, etc...
basically keeping an eye out for the "too good to pass up" deal...
if you stop looking.... you miss stuff like this

I look at bikes I can't afford; I look at gears I want but would never need; I look at more parts and upgrades that I know what to do with... It's a illness we all learned to live with.

AHHHHHHH my eyes!!!!! Can I have that click back? [laugh] Rat bike indeed.
I'm hung up on ebay motors. I should really delete it from my favorites list. I'd probably have a well paying job by now if I stopped wasting time looking at other folks bikes on line. But I too rationalize it by saying I'm studying pricing trends. ;D
And of course, first thing I do after reading this thread is go open CL. Totally not in the market, but stumbled on these two locally. [bang]

I do the same, how do you think I ended up with 8 bikes in the garage [laugh]
... I don't really need a bike, but I'll just look for fun . . . oh look, that H1 is darn cool... oh the wife would like that monster... I should really get back into MX and that CRF450 is a good deal... you know the drill :P
I do the same thing. I look at motos (even though I don't want a new one) and drumsets. Even though I wasn't really in the market, I did find a very nice drumset a couple weeks ago that I couldn't pass up. [thumbsup]

Unfortuantely, I do this all the time. As a matter of fact, I learned the hard way that alcohol and eBay don't mix very well - that's how I wound up with my GSXR-1100. Generally surfing without any real intent to buy anything is how I wound up buying most of my bikes. The only impulse buy was the GSXR, but I did have three days to retract my bid had I wanted.
The most recent one was my Bimota. It actually resulted in me kicking one of the bikes outside because I don't have the room for it. I would say that of the 10 complete bikes that we have, only four of them were truly from looking for or wanting them. The others were from stumbling across a good deal or an interesting bike and then talking myself into buying it over a few days. Unfortunately, I can "justify" a few grand every couple of years for a frivilous purchase, so it is dangerous for me to go surfing around and looking at bikes. The worst I've done, so far, is two bikes in one year....in the same month. LOL Those were the wife's M900ie and her ST2.
CL should just be relabeled "bike porn". It's basically what it is for me... haha

Ha, looking at CL threads has become routine for me. You know it's pretty bad when my daughter keeps asking if I'm going to purchase another motorcycle.
Keeping track of pricing trends is *very important*
(as I keep telling myself)
And I think I'll be watching the Bakersfield CL too for the entertainment...

I do it because if a good enough deal came up, I would make it happen regardless of what my checking account balance was. That's how I got into my M900 project... really wasn't looking for another project, but it popped up and I was there. Plus there's always the amusement factor to be had when someone has a truly ugly bike or wants an obscene amount of money for a piece of junk.
No craigslist in my part of the world.... but I know the asking price of evey used Moto Guzzi Griso currently for sale in Australia [laugh]

I have an RSS feed for all of the Craigslists in major cities, plus about 20 automated searches on Ebay sending me listings for bikes I am looking for.
You never know, you might just be walking out of the hospital with cash after selling a kidney and that Bimota you always wanted is going cheap...
why would i want to miss this?

Hi, my name's Marcel
And I'm addicted to Craigslist...i check it every day. I have it as a app on my Yahoo toolbar. 1 click and I'm in my local motorcycle section. I even go to searchtempest to look for things in my entire state with the ease of going to 1 site. I cant afford a single thing on there. Why do I look? I know I have a problem, my wife tells me all the time. Is there hope for me?
It pays off too looking here and there. One day I decided to search for baxley. Those stands are never on there but what the hell I was bored. Scored a used once baxley sport chock for $125 local
hell
craigslist, bookoo, etc, etc
found an 2006 SS800 for 4300 I can't afford :(
Saw a few hits in ny area.. I needs money
Thanks to this thread, I just spent over an hour looking for a street legal YSR50... [bang]

I keep looking for a clean stock CB750, that hasn't been "chopped". GP motorcycles has a pre - 1980 ride every year and I need something to take that ride on. Of course there is always the money issue

it's the old "have to buy a new tool" problem in another form...
I too am addicted to Craigslist. Which is extra dumb, because there will be no cash for more motorcycles until I: fix the one I have, pay off the other one, pay off my credit card, pay for a wedding, and probably a move across the country. So, next bike in five years?

If it has blinkers and mirrors, it can be. They were originally street bikes, but most are converted to track use, like mine...
Is there any other way to view the thread without creating an account?

I was thinking it was pricey too but never looked for them before so no idea of what they typically go for.

Omg - That can't be real. I saw the post. If it is legit, it is probably sold in 10 minutes.
My guess is that It probably is a scam.
I just saw on craigslist a street fighter with full term pipes and all sorts of accessories (Renthal handle bar, crg mirrors, alarm etc ) ..... $14K
Oh, how I wish I had extra $ for that :'( :'( [bang]
Also guilty but when you read posts like this how can you find fault:
2004 Ducati Matrix 998. Perfect condition with <2,300 original miles. Not running.
Forgive me but I'm drawn to a garage queen like a moth to a flame. Scored both of my current bikes with the combined price less than the original sale price of either one.

woooooo where ?
CraigsPro on the iPhone makes searching all the local CL sites for keywords like "Ducati", "S2R", "Cafe" or even "Yamaha RD" something I do 3 times a day.
But, I am kind of hoping to pick up a deal once it starts snowing in the east. So maybe I'm in the market I just can't really afford to be. BUT I have a plan! Buy low and sell high come spring. HA
That brings me to my question. How many of you waste more to coming up with plans or researching specs, upgrades, etc for bikes you don't even own or have never seen that you find on CL.
Now that's when you know you have a real problem :)

Lol so true.
The eBay app saved searches don't help me one bit. Well they make searching really easy, but then I presented with regular updates on stuff I want. A KTM 690 SMC popped up the other day for a great price, 1,300 miles away. Caught myself wondering what'd take to get it here.

what did you pay?
did you wear a mask when you picked it up?
$5500. All stock. Had to do belts and tires naturally. No didn't wear a mask 'cause it's risky buying a bike that doesn't run.

I'm guilty of cl trolling as well. I'm usually looking for yamaha xs or triumph bobbers.
Hi, my name is Josh and I have a problem.....
I too troll the CL motorcycle section to see if anything good pops up. This is how I ended up with my 99 M900, I wasn't even looking for a Ducati!
It's scary how my life has pretty much revolved around CL. The following things have been acquired from CL:
1. Car
2. Bikes
3. Jobs
4. Apartments
5. Furniture
Maybe there should be AA meetings, but for Craigslist. I think there'd be allot of Ducati owners there :)
I hit Craigslist every day. First I look under manufacturing jobs (I'm a machinist and try to keep track of demand in the area, and areas somewhat nearby, just in case), then the tools section, recently I bought a Makita die grinder, like a dremel, but with way more power and industrial quality, and it was brand new, for $1. And a full size drill press, in perfect shape with a brand new chuck, for $20 from some crank freak that really, really, really needed $20 at 10pm that night. I was there in 10 minutes. Then the motorcycles. If I needed to, I could get the money for whatever, by the latest, the next morning, to get the really screaming deal.
i thought everyone tolled CL lookin for bikes. I dont think i have a problem all my friends are doin it to. hahahahah
