Title: American Lung Association fund raiser
Post by: herm on December 21, 2011, 12:21:35 PM
Fellow DMF'ers,

For the majority of you that don't know me, my name is Jonas St. John. I'm a fireman, and I've been here and on TOB since 2003.

My fire department is fielding a team to participate in the 2012 American Lung Assiociation "Fight for Air Climb." This event will be held in early February, and we will be entering the Firefighter category. This means we get timed to climb 41 floors in full turnout gear, boots, helmets, and air packs. There might be some sort of recognition for the best times.....

That's the easy part...

The hard part is that each team member is asked/expected to rustle up sponsoring donations to benefit the ALA. Our team goal is to gain $150.00 in donations for each team member.

So,....I know times are tight. But if you are interested, check out the link below. And if you have it in your heart and pocket, consider making a donation to this excellent cause. The ALA is a well know organization, and donations are tax deductible!

Oh, and wish me luck too [thumbsup]

a quick update for all of you who offered to sponsor me...

THANK YOU! [bow_down]

due in no small part to your generosity, i am currently the second highest fund raiser for the event. I also wanted to give people a heads up that they should be receiving an email from me, sent by the ALA, thanking you for your support.

this is important for two reasons. first, i think that email consists is the necessary document for any tax deductions. second, i wanted to let you know that it was me sending it, rather than automated spam from their site. so,....if you haven't gotten that email yet, check your spam filter. And let me know if it's not there, and you care about the tax deduction.

once again, many thanks to all who have donated!

p.s.-- for anyone still thinking about making a donation, there is still time [thumbsup]

Great job, herm!

Have you been training for the stair climb?

Stella and I have seen some crazy insane firefighter types doing mind-boggling workouts on the stairs at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Good luck!  I volunteer at the one here in Seattle every year. March 11 is our big day. Last year my job was to stand near the stairwell at the top with emesis bags. They saw a lot of use  [laugh]
