Title: Oil Line Re-locate/Replace?
Post by: DTR on December 31, 2011, 04:55:45 PM
I'd like to clean up the appearance of the right side of the engine. I will lengthen and re-route the electrical, but the oil cooler line is an eye-sore:(http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/xx49/evandewan/IMG_3583.jpg)
I looked at My Multistrada to see if those lines would work ,but they look too long. Has anyone re-routed or replaced this oil line to have a cleaner visual appearance? If so, what Ducati did the longer oil line come off? Thanks, in advance

I'm not 100% sure, but I think there is a Motard kit that is a direct swap, more or less...

Or you can make your own.  A search will find both.

Oil lines for the HyperMotard will re-route it to the left side of the engine.

I got mine from PJ's parts and they bolted right up.

Be careful when you're switching lines, tho. The cooler is not very strong at all, so use the cast-in backing nuts when loosening the lines.

I'd also recommend liberal dosing of penetrating oil when wrenching the lines off the engine. The casting in that area is not very strong and has been known to break off a piece when the fittings finally come off. Happened to me and at least one other that I know of (Triple J). JB welded back in place, but I'd rather have not had to.

I bought mine relocator lines from PJ's parts as well, I also painted the radiator while I had it off. Definately cleans up the right side. Now I just want to re-route the temp lines and the starter cable.

Great, thanks. I searched for a DIY mod, but no luck. Different search terms?

And yes, use two spanners on the oil cooler.
