Chevy Impala explodes after an oil change (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=nvpWGQbj7vQ#)
Probably not actually due to the oil change... but good luck explaining that to insurance
Damn! :o Well at least they have it on video. I didn't see anyone do anything stupid. Although they were a little slow getting the extinguisher.
Oops. [bang]
Way back in high school a friend attempted to change the oil himself in his new to him 5.0 mustang. He later tells us, "It took forever to refill the oil. And, I had a hard time finding a funnel with a small enough spout to fit in the fill tube." He poured the entire 5 quarts or so through the dipstick tube. I wish this story was made up.
That's funny! You can haunt him with that story forever! [laugh]
I'm not familar with modern chevy engines. I'm assuming it's port injected. How is the high pressure fuel rail routed? How robust/fagile are the fuel connections between the fuel rail and the injectors? Is it possible for a ham fisted "mechanic" to undo the fuel connection at an injector?
Id say theres a couple problems here. Even if you crack the fuel rail or an injector (plastic bodied), you have to have some sort of ignition source...perhaps a hot manifold, although i dont think it was running long enough for that...
either way, ive had an engine fire on my 79 jeep from a cracked fuel hose...not fun. luckily that thing doesnt ahve ANY electronics to fry ;D

"It was Michael Bay's car." [laugh] [clap]
