My guess:

Investment cast outer gear sections and probably either stamped or investment cast inner gears.

The inside is likely a tube that gets crimped up around the outer gear sections, with ball bearings crimped inside to make the action move easier.

So not the ring for anyone prone to playing with their jewelry. All day long you'd hear that gear noise...

If you had a good powder metal rapid prototype machine you could "print" it all as one assembly.

It would be cooler if it had a motor and ran  ;D
