nice.
only a few updates: Retina display with a faster processor and the ability to use it as a wifi to connect other devices/4 g capable (expensive on both accounts). The first will give gamers and hard core users what they want but the wifi hub is expensive and useless IMO. Frankly I wanted the ability to connect expansion cards so I'll stick to my lowly 2 series.
I expected more but this trickle shit is driving me crazy. Motorolla Razr Maxx here I come.

Give us a report on that when you get it.
I am upgrading from iPad 1 to iPad (3rd generation). Why didn't they just call it iPad 3? or 2S? Or 2 4G?
Should be here the 16th.

verizon is supposed to be including that feature "free" with their data plans.
at&t hasn't announced their new data plans yet.
if you have an iPhone and don't need gps on the iPad, i'd consider upgrading to a tethering plan on the iPhone and then getting the wifi-only iPad. this would give you mobile data on your iPad and whatever other devices you need.
I ordered one.
Think what you will.

+1
I did the jail break on my iphone and used it as a wifi connection on my first wifi only Ipad. The connection sucked, for me anyway, and it's ATT. Verizon's 3g pad I have now is so much faster where I travel. As soon as I scrounge up the cash to cancel the contract I'll go to Verizon and get the MAXX (16 hour talk time is just what the doctor ordered since I live on my phone).
Back to the pad........not enough for me to change, at least until I see it and play with it at the store but doubtful I'll do it.
I still can't find enough uses to justify one. Just not a product for me I guess.
I use the shit out of my android phone, though. Sometimes I want a bigger screen, but a tablet is too big to carry around.
I'm seriously considering one of these (as my wife calls them) gigantiphones. Specifically, the Samsung Galaxy Note.
I have a galaxy S phone right now...had it for a year. It's great, so I'm thinking bigger screen and faster processing will be awesome. Still small enough to carry without a purse [thumbsup]

We picked up a Samsung Galaxy Tab for the kids and it's been awesome. Tablets of this kind are mainly for consumer content delivery so perfect for a 4 year old on a plane trip. One big bonus, I downloaded a DVD ripper and put all of his Thomas/Dora/Phineas&Ferb DVDs on the Tab. One advantage of the Samsung Tablets is the memory card slot. I have a couple of cards -- one with the DVDs on it (32gigs) and one with various games he likes. That way I can turn off the movies and make him play some semi-educational games (mathblaster stuff and language stuff).
The Samsungs are the bomb.

I got the maxx last week and its pretty good. The battery last a decent amount of time and the phone is fast. You can get a free app from the market called foxfi. It gives you wifi hotspot access without having to root your phone or pay verizon an extra $30 a month. I use it with my ipad to surf the web, watch netflix, etc. 4G is fast. I can get 10M upload on my ipad and 16M down with the hotspot app and my razr maxx.

i think at&t added tethering to their 3GB plans which are $5-10 more than the old plans. much better than the +$30 option.

I went from an Iphone to a galaxy S II Skyrockt with a 4.5" screen and its fantastic! not quite as monsterous as the note, great for my hand size and great screen. - Check that out
As for the "New Ipad" - I pre-ordered a 16gb and a 16gb LTE. Not sure which one I'll keep. I might even sell them both to some sucker who can't live without it, and then buy one in a couple months. Delayed Gratification + Profit= Win
The wife has an Ipad 1 and its still fine enough, though I would like a lighter and thinner one since I carry all the electronics when we travel. I'll play with it at the store and then decide

Since Iphone 4 came with the "Personal Hotspot" feature I have used it while traveling. On Oahu the Hotspot wifi was faster then the cable wifi in the house we rented even with two devices using it. I ordered the new iPad in wifi only. 99% of the time I use it at home. For GPS I have nav in all cars plus the iphone.
I'll be getting the new Ipad like I've gotten new ones each time they came out. You can really cut into the cost of the new one by selling the old one on the same day to idiots on craigslist. I sold my original Ipad with the accessories more than the new cost of just the Ipad (first gen) last year. Idiots.
I like this one as you can edit pictures on it and most likely video.

If the iPad supported an optical drive and an external hard drive, I'd buy one in a second. I do so very little with my laptop besides rip cds/dvds and upload them to my mobile devices. The iPad is very close to doing everything I need.

you'd likely be unimpressed with the ripping/re-encoding speed of the a5x processor.

I've been thinking of the Galaxy and I like the idea of a card to put stuff on. Can you show a picture of said card and slot that card goes in?
I have a galaxy TV too. I'm thinking there might be some small benefit to having another device to go with it.

not sure about the galaxy tablet, but I have a samsung laptop (series 7), and a samsung TV, and I can stream from the computer to TV wireless-ly.
I stream music all the time, so it'll play through my surround sound attached to the TV, instead of the laptop speakers [laugh]

I can only stream still photos to my TV. Maybe I'm missing something. I have a dell laptop but that shouldn't have anything to do with it.
I just stopped in to Best Buy to pick up the LCD Backpack for my GoPro and randomly checked to see if they had any of the new Ipad's still available. Shockingly.....they did. I now have a very happy wife, I finally have an Ipad (her Ipad 2), and some new gadgets for the GoPro.
Great Friday [thumbsup]

I use the WiDi (wireless display) on my samsung, and it transmits directly to the tv...recongizes it on it's own. Not sure about the technicalities of how it works :-\

What is the damage?
One of the edges is pretty chewed up top to bottom. Face/glass is intact but now I'm afraid to turn it on.
It just slid right out of my hands.... I would have liked to have seen the expression on my face while it was happening.
I can live with the rough, scratch your skin edge (will find a protector that covers the edge) - not going to return it for that.
Might go into a store (bought online thru Apple) tell them my hands were all fat and buttery and have them turn it on and verify that it's working properly (or not) while I turn my head and wince - waiting for their answer. ;)
I've had good luck when I've brought electronics in to a store (usually a dropped cell phone) and tell them exactly what happened.
I can't make up a story like some other friends suggested ("crush the packaging a little and tell them it arrived that way."). I've tried that with my parents. It never worked. ;)
Will let you all know when I get it up and hopefully running.

You suggested fraud, a crime. Not to mention, a loss of integrity. Integrity is a funny thing. To some it is valuable, to others worthless. I've done my best to keep mine intact and that has helped me (saved my job at times and literally secured me the one I have now) at different times through the years. I wouldn't lose mine over $800. And it doesn't matter if anyone else knows or I get caught. I know.
Your threshold or opinion may be different. That's fine. I just would never loan you anything. :)
Stella, turn it on. It's probably fine. I've dropped my iPhone several times and it's sans case. As long as the glass didn't crack your golden. If the damage can be masked with a nice case then even better.

+1 on Otterbox cases. The only thing I have a problem with is they are very thick and chunky. However, if in an environment where damage is likely, I wouldn't mind.
A friend of mine has an Otterbox on his iPhone. He was running through a monsoon like thunderstorm in a parking lot. His phone fell off his belt and into a 3" puddle of water. He realized the phone was gone when he got inside, so he retraced his steps and found it under water (probably for a minute or so).
The phone still works [thumbsup]

Finally getting back to the scratch 'n dent pad.
After taking off the cellophane, I'm happy to report that the actual wrap was more torn than the side of the pad. And so far so good with functionality.
Hesitated pouring a much needed glass of wine after a long day (month) to sit and get it going. So, I moved the glass across the counter forcing me to get up and take a drink as opposed to having it sit next to the pad. Smart move on my clumsy part, wouldn't you say. ;D
I'm very familiar w/the Otterbox brand. Just wish they weren't so butt ugly. However having ugly protect usability and function for a few years may win over cool, visually aesthetic design.

He dropped a piece on his ipad. No issue.
That night when I went to charge it I discovered he had actually bent the aluminum case of the ipad. A little judicious tweaking and the charging plug would fit again.
Anything that turns an electronic device into an almost indestructible electronic device can look as ugly as it wants in my book.
