1) Worst one is a lane splitting ticket i got in July...court date is in august. +2 points and the only thing that is looming over my head.

2) the three times ive been double ticketed. as in, i got pulled over for no visor, and got one for no right mirror.

or the double parking tickets (not parking in the street next to another car, but, i was parked, and got 2 tickets) such as the time i thought it was friday, but it was really a thursday (alternate side parking)  AND i got one because i didnt realize my inspection was expired...by 3 days!!!!

3) the worst one by far, was the one that had NO PARKING, COMMERCIAL ONLY (you can stand there). I pulled over on a hot 100 degree summer day. I pulled my helmet off, scoped around, i saw a meter cop, she walked by me, about 25 feet. so i got off and went into a store to by a bottle of water. I come out and shes running down the block.

pregnant dog gave me a ticket like a freaking ninja. I swear, it wasnt even 2 minutes.

In my college days, I drove a 83 Mazda RX-7.  My roommate and I were returning to school from Thanksgiving.  The drive is about 5 hours, crossing the state of Washington.  There is one stretch of highway where it's complete straght and flat for 26 miles.  My roommate asked, since it's in the middle of nowhere and no other car in sight, to test the top speed of the car.

I dropped down a gear and when for it.  With a 1.1L rotary engine and 95HP (if I remember correctly), the car got up to 106-107.  Its a tiny 2 seater, weighting at 2500lbs.  We were flying in a tin rocket, so it seemed.  My roommate timed 34 secs per mile post.  It was good times!

Apparently, we were spotted by somebody and cops were radio ahead to track us down.  Toward the end of the 26 mile stretch, we had already slowed down.  But I guess we got used to the 100+MPH speed, we didn't realize we were still going 80+.....  in a 55...

LEO drove passed us and turned around to catch up.  He estimated us going 84 when he spotted me.  Wrote me a ticket for $126 for going 15 over...  Not awhole lot of money but, to a starving college kid, that was my spending money for a couple of weekends.  Totally sucked

93mph in a 55 zone  April 2003

Route 81 South

Harrisonburg Virginia (of all places)

Helicopter sent the ground interceptor after me

Trooper lowered the clocked speed to under 30MPH over the limit (the law at the time, I think it is now 20mph over/discretionary)

so he didn't have to cuff me for reckless...but gave me a mandatory appearance which I wangled out of with a plea letter

Probably helped that I saw him in the corner of my eye whipping a u-turn

from the northbound side of the highway in the center median crossover

by the time he got to me I was already on the side of the road with DL and docs waiting for him

he also cited me for the radar detector unplugged on the floor on the passenger side because it was in sight

250 dollars total fine....

I am sure the same offense now would cost 2,500......... since the world has since gone broke

Following too close and failure to dim,  behind a sand truck crawling up a grade at about 6 mph and the LEO came up from behind.  It was points and fines for both charges but the ADA sorta took my side

Those 620 capri monsters and all that power are a hazard.

Many many years ago, heading upstate NY, I-87, moving along well, 110±, drove past an underpass and there he was, coffee in hand, I was hard on the brakes, he was putting the coffee down, felt like it was all in slow motion, pulled me over for 88 mph, all you could smell was brakes, had to go to court, very little was said, I was a hurting college kid, he was nice enough to drop it to 74.

Time to pull this embarrassing one out again.  :P
Used to be a time that if a cop's lights came on and there was an opportunity, I was gone regardless of what I was driving. Good thing I didn't own a bike back then, I'd be dead.

So anyway, I had a POS '82 Mustang that I had built. It was originally a 4 cylinder but the 302 from an '85 T-bird went in. I guessimate that the way I had it, it was probably around 250 hp or so, still have the motor laying around in the garage somewhere. The car was also stripped to bare metal inside with only the two front seats left, so it weighed nothing.

Anyway, I was working a failing sales job by day and at Pizza Hut by night.
Coming home one night at around 11:30, I'm doing my normal speed on Rt 6 between Honesdale and Hawley, Pa. Turns out that speed is apparently 77 in 45 because the first cop had that register on the radar. I nailed it and took off. Short distance down the road right before a decently long straight was the second cop. They were set up to nab drunks. Never had seen them set like this there before and never since. The second cop got me at 130 in 45 and that was just before the downhill straight.
Went through the corner at the bottom of the straight at I'd guess 120 in a nice controlled 4 wheel drift. Scrubbed off more speed for the next corner (maybe to 100?)
Had it drifting again but the rear stepped out and I spun. Pitch black, going backwards at about 90 with the tires spinning, I somehow kept it on the road just ever so slightly touching the guardrail enough to break a marker lense on the car. The measured skidmarks were over 600ft.
I'm sitting in the middle of the road now pointing the other way. I killed the lights and tried to restart the car as it had stalled. The intention was to sedate pass them going the other way as that would be unexpected and then take off again before they thought to turn around. Never found out if this brilliant scheme would work as the car wouldn't start. What seemed at the time to be five minutes later I saw their lights coming so I turned mine back on. Guns drawn, I was told to get out of the car and put in back of one of the cruisers. I saw them searching every nook and cranny of the car as I obvious had to be up to something. Nope just a moron!
Car got towed to a nearby garage and I got it the next day. They actually brought me home but I asked them to wait so that I could wake my wife up and they could explain what I did. Sat outside for awhile after that as I didn't want to go in.
End result=fleeing and attempting elude, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road, the 77 in a 45 and a couple other things. Ending up losing my license for 6 months, paying $1300 in fines at a time when $100 would be a killer and doing 50 hours of community service (probably only did half that as I was doing stuff like painted and cleaning the town hall and the mayor was writing down more time than I was doing )

Still have the speed addiction in me but try my best to keep it under control. I use cruise control in the car whenever possible any fast stuff is rare and just in back roads where civilization barely exist.

Making a police car roll in a chase years ago on my R6.  $10,000 in fines and penalties.  And I paid for the cop car.

Worst single ticket was an excessive speed fine somewhere in the California desert.

Worst stop was a triple ticket. I was doing about 10 over moving with traffic in the right lane. At an intersection the car in front of me got on the brakes heavy to make a right hand turn (no turn signal). I swerved into the center lane and went through what had then became a yellow light. A few moments later I was being pulled over. I hadn't even taken my helmet off yet when the cop started in yelling and screaming. He calmed down and turned out to be a polite and friendly guy. He ticketed me for speeding, changing lanes without signaling, and running a red light.

I took it to court and got everything but the speeding ticket tossed out. The lane change ticket was legitimate but I absolutely didn't run the light.

It's been a long time since though and thankfully I have never been tossed in jail for any traffic violation.

143 in a 65 will net you the following in Iowa:

1 night in jail (the 2am phone call to my dad went something like this: Me: Dad, I am in jail...can you come get me out? Dad: God damn son of a....click *dial tone* And I didn't see or hear from him until I walked myself the 7 miles home from the jail the next morning).
$1653 in fines, surcharges and court cost.
80 hours of community service.
1 year license suspension.
2 years of probation with any moving violation after the 1 year suspension resulting in a 5 year suspension.
A lengthy lecture from a very angry judge.

And...a discussion with the arresting officer about how to squeeze 460hp out of a 406 Chevy small block. He was actually pretty cool considering. Apparently, because I stopped...  [bang]

I have a severe addiction to speed. I have learned to use it a bit more wisely in my old age but I still have dodged some pretty big revisits to the above. I was 18 at the time and 2 months from joining the Army. They held me out of basic until I got a final disposition on the case and were none too happy because I was supposed to have or be able to obtain a valid driver's license for my MOS. I got lucky because after some quick talking, my recruiter got me a 2 year stint in a position where I would not be required to drive off post.

Reckless Driving & Attempt to Allude in my 74 Charger, w/440. Big ol' fine and a 90 day suspension of license. I pulled over at the 2nd road block as figured that I wouldn't be able to out run the radio.

1996- I was on my Triumph Daytona and they got me on radar at 156 in a 35.I reached a deal that basically said I will sell the bike in lieu of a ticket. Gotta love that cop. I kept my end of the deal and so did he.
I think it was because I was a single parent raising my daughters and if I went to jail, they would be taken into care and then once kids are in the system.......He did not want that. I was so lucky!

WoW! Some Hooligans on here for sure. It was a simpler time just a decade or so ago.
Man I'm 47 yrs old and still can't seem to go fast enough! I'm always looking for 7th gear on whatever I'm on.
Well, they got me the other night, too. 112 in a 65. They sorta half-ass arrested me although I was not given my Miranda rights, wasn't finger printed. Great mug shot, though ;D. If I can get it I'll sure post it.! (http://www.thespeedtriple.com/forum/images/smilies/d.gif)

You only get read your Miranda rights if they want to question you and use your statements against you in court.

the one that sucked the most was

getting a ticket and then another one the very next day.   now that was a horrible weekend.  Glad it did not happen in the same city.  Phew.

as for the other many tickets, let's just say some of my friends refer to me as ticket magnet.

It's never good when  [leo] pulls your record and says ".. so i am looking at four digit license on the screen and figure it is a bike but then I have to page down and down down and down."

the other ticket that sucked recently more than the impound is the f'er that pulled me over for my license plate not being clearly visible.  aHole !

She's right, but not for the reason she thinks.

Those mustangs had a crappy non parallel 4 link rear that would bind at a certain amount of body roll.  After that it just wouldn't move any more and you get snap over steer.

On my CP autox car I ditched one of the upper arms and made the other on my own with a spherical rod end.  Worked awesome.

The SVO springs made for very little body roll though.

1994 - road rage induced speeding ticket. There was some dickhead in front of me who kept jamming the brakes, speeding up and then swerving into the wrong lane when I could pass (for no reason other than he probably thought it was fun). He finally turned onto a side street and I jammed the accelerator going up a hill as the LEO crested coming from the other direction. I think it was 70 in a 25, but I doubt that. I was going uphill in a Subaru Justy. Either way, I was already on such a tight budget (I was driving a Justy after all) that it meant I couldn't really eat for a couple weeks.  I'm glad I didn't have the mechanical muscle some of you had when I was 19.

The one that pisses me off the most... a long slog across Texas in a company van, I set the cruise at 5 over the speed limit on some state route, but with a 30+ MPH tail wind the cop clocked me at 7 over.  Middle of nowhere, nobody else in sight, bright afternoon, long flat road, but I got a ticket for that.  For a $250 cashier's check to the county judge (to her name directly, IIRC) I got a deferral on the ticket.

My other worst ticket was pacing an off-duty cop on the outer belt around Indy.  He was from a suburb on the Northeast side, I started following him way out on the west side when I saw him toting his dry cleaning in the back seat.  He made a move through traffic and I lost him, he managed to duck behind me and lit me up (yellow Mini Cooper = not subtle car).  Ended up getting a ticket for 14 over despite the fact that I was following him at closer to 30 over, another deferral later and still no points on the license.

Totally late for work and blasted down a long straight stretch in rural eastern WA.
just before I go to slow down for the corner a state LEO comes around the bend.
I look down and see about 130 on the clock. I still laid hard on the brake muttering
make the beast with two backs, make the beast with two backs make the beast with two backs make the beast with two backs make the beast with two backs under my breath. I see his brake lights come on as I pass around the corner
and pull over. I'm off the bike and just taking my helmet off as he comes flying around the corner and
his eyes go wide as he realizes I'm waiting for him.
He walks up and asks if I'm in a hurry. I said yeah it was just one of those days and I was so
late for work. He said  i was doing 132 when he first saw me but was down to 105 when I went by him.
We shot the breeze for a bit and he wrote me a ticket for 5 over and gave me a website to
go to for the state to fill out a form and the ticket would drop off after a year.
Never had seen a state cop on that road before and never have since.

Minor in possession of alcohol when I was 19. $245.

I was super-scared to tell my dad about it cause I knew for a fact he was gonna kill me.

Finally told him about it, and it turns out he'd been popped for 20 over in a construction zone (double fines! yay!) the week before. He figured we should just pay our fines and not tell Mom and just act like nothing had happened.

That took over 3 grand to sort out, not counting loss on the motorcycle/insurance rates etc.  Oddly enough, I walked away,  I still have pain in the middle of my femur was under the motorcycle when I hit the pavement.

Late for work one day. Long stretch of road in an industrial area on my normal drive to work. The road is a 40mph zone for some reason. I am one of maybe 4-5 cars on that road that time of morning. I'm doing a little over 80 in a 2002 Black F150. Moto cop is hiding just inside the gate to one of the businesses in that area and nabs me. I pull right over, he walks up and I get the usual "you in a hurry?". I give him my military ID with my license like I always have and he tells me he got me on radar at 81 in a 40. I ask him if he can cut me a break and all he says is "I'm giving you a break for not taking you to jail for wreckless driving." Ouch.

I get to court and sit down with the DA. The fine is $650 and a mandatory 1 day in jail. It's also a misdemeanor offense as opposed to a simple traffic violation. We talk for a bit and he ends up reducing it to 79 in a 40 which takes the day in jail off the table and drops the fine to $550. But he WOULD NOT drop the misdemeanor.

Another time was driving from Phx to San Diego. Got a ticket in the AZ desert for speeding then got another as I got into San Diego. 2 tickets in one days sucks...

If you think it works for you great. My perception, and the other cops I've talked with about it, is someone handing us military ID believe they deserve special treatment. Not a good way to start. A sticker in the rear window with your branch is a better way to convey that message.

1998. Pulled out of a gas station and yanked the front wheel up. Cop came over the hill towards me while im in a wheelie. I put the wheel down and look in my rearview mirror and see him slam on the brakes and start to turn around but i already have such a jump on him as he is going the other way and can't turn around immediately because of traffic so i figured i could shake him real quick.  I dropped a gear and took off.

I ran it up to about 95 or so for about 20 secs and figured i had some distance so i slowed down to about 60. Just then i see another one coming towards me and he also hit the brakes and started to turn around. Same thing, dropped two gears, rocketed away from him on the straight and about a half mile down the road basically dragged a knee on a long sharp right hander that i knew he wouldnt take that fast. Once i was out of sight and he would have known if i had turned or not, i slowed down again.

Then im in the next town thinking im safe and see ANOTHER one coming towards me again.

Anyway long story shorter, this happened a few more times and i lost them easily but i made a dumb move (dumber than the ones i had already made) and turned into a center of town are where there was a lot of traffic. At this point im 4 towns away from where this started and the blocked me in with nowhere to go.

They arrest me, rough me up as cops always do because they dont like being disobeyed, and they write me 9 tickets for anything they could think of. Little did i know that about a month earlier they made running form the cops a felony, one step beneath murder. They impound the bike, and thankfully my lawyer got me a PTI, or a pre trial intervention. basically like probation before you are convicted. I had never been in trouble before this and thats the only reason they let me do it. Stay out of trouble for a year and charges are dropped. Well the felony was dropped after a year but is still cost me thousands and lots of visits to the courts to fight all the other tickets. Remember there were 9......

Have run from cops 4 times, twice on bikes, twice in cars.Lost them on the bikes, caught in the cars.
Like I say, this was a long time ago and I have wised up a little.

DUI many years ago.

Don't get one, they really suck.

I also got arrested for swimming across the Mississippi river. Had to get bailed out behind that and spend some time with the murderers and father rapers.

I was the only one on central lockup with a yellow wrist band, just about everyone else had red wristbands (Felony). One dude is using the collect call only phone to threaten his b*#!h to come down there and get him out. Two other guys are having a reunion. They havent seen each other since the last time in jail. One of them claims "He shot the dude in the head" The other one says "Oh man you bad! You probably get maslaughter fo dat" Lots of back slapping all around

I'm sitting quietly by myself on the bench still pretty damp in tennis shoes and shorts.

Then Some big guy comes over and gets in my face and says "What you in here fo"? I say "swimming across the river" He say "The river! What river"? Me "The Mississippi river" He gets out of my face and goes back to his corner with all his buddies. (BTW I was one of the few white faces in the room) I hear him talkin "Man he must be some kinda marine or somfin, he was swimmin in the river"

So they left me alone after that, and a couple hours later the wife shows up with bail.
About 2 weeks later I went to court paid a fine, had to promise not to do it again. Of course I got a parking ticket at the court house because they kept me in there about 10 minutes too long for the parking meters. When your in there you can't just run out and feed the meter, and the parking enforcement people are circling the block like sharks. The run a real racket in NOLA

I gotta know what led to that decision.

Well My first wife and I lived in Algiers point, right at 335 Delaronde st. just a short walk to the ferry. So one day we decided to take it over to the quarter and just walk around and stuff. I was life gaurding that summer and had been swimming lots of yards at the pool. I think I had been doing like a mile and a half most days. So on the way over I mentioned that I could probably swim the river. Later on that afternoon when we came back to the ferry, we had to wait a while because it was going over to the Algiers side. This gave me time to look at the river again and I said that "I could swim it" or something to that effect, and she says so why dont'cha Dave.

So after that there was no backing out. The Ferry came back, she got on, and I climbed down a ladder at the end of the car loading dock and slipped into the river. I got about halfway across when the "Cotton blossom" came steaming toward me and got right along side. I tried to evade it by going under water, but that was useless, and you cant see your hand in front of your face.

They threw one of those styrofoam life rings on my head and insisted that I swim over and get on the boat. Then we went over to the canal street side where I was met by the harbor patrol and escorted to central lock up. And that about it.

Oh, and Gina was always ribbing me about the Cotton blossom after that.

Besides it being a huge shipping channel, I'm guessing it's a public nuisance measure. Bubba don't swim as good as he drunk thinks he does, and it costs a lot of gasoline to go out and get him.

They mentioned all these things to me at the time. Shipping lane, coast guard on standby, Public nuisance. I wasn't thinking about Bubba can't swim at the time. The people on the boat that "rescued me" were whole heartedly convinced that they had really saved me from peril.

You are quite right. A little bit stronger than the current experienced when diving in among the rocks off the Northern CA coast generally speaking.

I figured on going with the current around that bend in the river and making shore well up stream of the Naval Support Activity base.

Talimena Scenic Drive (Oklahoma), Spring 2008. The road is a park road, 50+ miles of double stripe/no passing/55mph limit. It's my personal race track. Been riding it since 1980. During the week there is no there and it is not patrolled on the OK or AR side. Only on the weekends. I was told this by a LeFore Co. Sheriffs Deputy who swore me to secrecy! [laugh]

So I'm up there with some local DFW/DMF hooligans heading toward Arkansas on a weekend. We get stuck behind an ancient S-10 Chevy pickup puking out oil smoke and running maybe 30mph. He refuses to pull over at the scenic turn outs to let us and the stack of cars get by him.

I say screw it and light him up on a clear strait away and blow by him with a couple of buddies in tow. I'm humping along through the great bends and turns and notice that no one is behind me! Damn, I'm not riding that fast. Where did everyone go? I thought, oh shit someone fell or broke. I come to a complete stop on a long straight and wait... and wait. Nothing. Zippo. Crap, something happened. I turned around and headed back.

Well, there they all were. Safe on the side of the road accompanied by several screaming Park Rangers with hands on their guns. Not good.

I pull over and am greeted by one of the screaming Park Rangers with a hand on his gun. I take off my helmet and since I am older than his Dad his blood pressure goes down a little. [laugh] Seems as if they saw us "sport bike hoodlums" pull onto the park road off the highway and decided to follow us to see what we were up to. They had orders from the boss to shut down sport bike nonsense on the drive... similar to what happens on other popular scenic drives around the country. [roll]

Well, they were at the back of the pack behind the smoking S-10 and I never saw them in my mirrors when I took off. As soon as I passed the S-10 they hit the party lights and pulled everyone over but me. They claimed I was running from them (though I didn't know they were even there!) and had called in an armed road block down the road to stop and arrest me! [leo] [laugh] My friends tried to convince them that I would return and wasn't running away. They were right.

Well half of us got tickets for basically passing in a no passing zone on a park road. When I called the court clerk she asked if I had been racing on the road and had caused a serious accident. WTF? I said no and that the Park Ranger had said we were all getting "passing in a no passing zone" tickets. She said that's not the way the Ranger wrote up the tickets and that would be $254 please. [bang] Or you can drive the 250 miles back up here, get a lawyer and fight it in court. :P

Ahhhh... no thanks, check is in the mail. Point of story, don't ride the Talimena Scenic Drive on the weekends! [laugh]

Not my most expensive tickets....but the ones that pissed me off the most:

In 2007 I started a new job, that required me driving about 50 miles every morning to work. Along with the new job, I bought a fancy new sports car  [laugh]

2002 Audi TT quattro...the hard top, not the conv. chick car  ;D

Anyways, I was about a month in and I was cruising to work. There is about a 20 mile section that the Limit is 60 (even though it's perfectly straight and could easily be 100....but it's not). I KNOW not to speed in that section, as I had seen state troopers every morning and afternoon. So I go from my old mitsubishi junker, to this bright white coupe, and within a week--pulled over. 62mph in a 60mph zone. No joke. I had been driving with the cruise set at 66 every day in my mitsubishi. Never once. New car. Ticket.

I couldn't believe it. AND she actually gave me a ticket. SO pissed.

So I go on with my life. Next day...driving to work...6am. WHAM! lights on in the ditch. Same trooper. 62 in a 60. Gives me a second damn ticket.

I was so pissed I wanted to hit her with the car door when she walked up  [bang]

So I went to court thinking no way this was going to stand. Freakin lady shows up! and argues that I had been a constant nuisance on the road? I showed the judge the paper work on the car, showing I had just bought it a month and a half ago...how could I be a constant nuisance? She said she had consistantly seen me do illegal things on the road, but only had evidence to stop me those two times. I still don't get it. I'm not sure what I had done to piss her off so much.

Anyways, the judge reduced it to one ticket, and let me do defensive driving for it  [laugh]

The Troopers pulled me over consistently for the next 3 months. Everything from 2-3 over the limit, to crossing a double yellow (I went wide, because they had someone else pulled over, to give them room...and a second car chased me down and gave me a warning?).

I couldn't handle it anymore, so I traded the TT for a VW golf, and haven't been pulled over since  :-X

Not sure what that means...but it pissed me off majorly!

Yep. Good old Texas [laugh]

Here is the only theory I have. If it's not this...I just don't know. Previous to me driving this route, or maybe at the same time, there must of been some other white coupe that hauled ass up and down this stretch or road. I never saw another Audi TT, but I do know there was at least one white 911 (along with a couple others, but different colors) that I saw on a couple occasions. Maybe she got us confused? You would think a DPS officer would know her makes and models, but IDK.

If that isn't it...then hell...I just don't know.

I can't think of any personal connection I have to the lady what so ever. Thank god she moved away...I think she is the Sheriff in some county not too far from here know.

Maybe I had slept with her daughter or something, and never called her back?  [evil]

100 in a 55 on the Tollway in Illinois at 1am. No one around so I thought I could open it up a little. Didnt see him off to the side hiding on an on ramp as I passed. Thought I was going to lose my license for a year but $800 bucks for a Lawyer plus a trade for 3 Days SWAP (Sherrifs Work Program i.e. cleaning trash on the side of the road) and I got it reduced. I was going to spend 3 days cleaning up my community anyway it just happened to coincide with the court order.  ;D

Got a bunch of tickets when I was 18 tryin to outrun a cop on a dirtbike in Picher Oklahoma. I actually made it across the stateline but my brother who was 13 got ran off the road about 20ft before the stateline. Parents were real proud ;D

The thing that hacks me off is my wife has been stopped at least 30 times and she NEVER gets a ticket! OK, I think she's had two, but those are still pretty good odds.

One time we were going though Fayetteville Ark. about 2 in the morning. We had been to Little Rock to pick up my son who was coming home from Iraq. We had just stopped and changed drivers. So she takes off with her usual full throttle blast. We went about 2 miles and there's a Trooper in the median and he turns on his lights.. I start laughing and tell her she's gettin a damn ticket this time. So she pulls over and here he comes. He doesn't even go to the drivers side, he comes to the passenger side where I'm sitting and asks to see my drivers license! WTF! I'm not driving! So I tell him the story about picking up the son who's back from Iraq and we have a nice little chat. Finally he walks around to talk to my wife and he tells her there are a lot of drunks out this time of night and to be careful going home. Aargh!

Hi. My name is Ryan...and I am stupid.

*Hello Ryan*

It has been 2 days since my last stupid. I sort of fell off the stupid wagon...in a big way.
96mph in a 45mph zone. A stretch of pretty much perpetually vacant road I always open it up a bit on...
New Camaro heading towards me...don't think anything of it as I am rolling on the throttle hard in third gear.
BAM! Radar detector lights up like a 4th of July fireworks display.
Not the Camaro...a shiny new Dodge Charger tucked no more than 5 feet behind the Camaro's bumper. So close I couldn't even see him from the Multi's high perch.

I pull over as soon as the lights come on. I know I done did wrong...no trying to avoid it.
I could have run...by the time he turned around and would have caught up to me, I had at least 4 or 5 outs.
But I fess up to my stupid. Stupid hurts but not nearly as much as evasion, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, etc etc. 1 big ass slap down is much less painful than several big ass slap downs.

So he comes up to the bike as I am pulling off my helmet. I am shaking my head at myself.
He asks how I am doing tonight...
I reply, "Stupid."
He just chuckles and agrees with me.
Asks me if I knew how fast I was going and I readily admit that I don't but at this point I am pretty sure it was more than the posted 45mph.
He takes my paperwork.
He says he has clocked me at 96 in a 45.
Apparently he could smell the bricks I just shit because he backs away slightly.
He tells me to go ahead and wait there and heads back to his car. I set my helmet down and have a seat.
Quite literally, this normally abandoned stretch of road suddenly has become a parade ground. There is a literal flotilla of gawkers and rubberneckers driving by.

Several minutes pass during which I can see him feeding what seems like reams of thermal paper through his printer.
He gathers up the paperwork and exits the car heading back to me. I stand up and wait for the inevitable pregnant dogslap Johnny Law is about to give me.
He clears his throat as I brace myself for the notice that he will be taking my license, impounding my bike and if there is anyone nearby that can come pick me up.
This would be typical in this instance...30+mph over the speed limit in Iowa is a loss of license for a year with a year probation following that.
I am running through the scenarios on how to get to work for the next year without a license.

So he hands me my paperwork back...all of it. License included.
He starts explaining to me what he should be doing right now.
How he should be waiting for the tow truck while I wait for a ride.
But, he say, he isn't going to do that. Instead, he is going to give me a ticket for speeding.
He is going to mark it for >20 in a 55mph.
A hefty fine to be sure as the ticket totals $373 and change.
But SUBSTANTIALLY better than the alternative.
He explains his reasons behind it.
He knows that I have ridden for a long time.
He knows that I could have run and I could have gotten away. (He appreciates that I didn't)
He knows that all riders are prone to lapses in judgement as he is one himself and doesn't have enough fingers or toes to count the ones he made just last month while riding.
He knows that I am no the typical squid because he had to wait for me to get my gloves then helmet off and that I pulled my vital info out of the actual emergency info pocket in my jacket.

So he explains to me that he has written the ticket the way he has with the understanding that my head was momentarily caught in my ass and that it is not how I normally ride.
He doesn't want me to lose my license.
He has my sign the ticket (apparently, his thermal printer was acting up and wasn't printing the first 4 or 5 times he tried it hence the reason it looked like a novel was being printed).
He tells me to have a good night and to ride safe.

All in all, about as pleasant a negative situation like that can be.
He was very professional. Wasn't a d-bag about anything.
I was very up front with my denunciation of my self stupidity.

Needless to say, my wife wasn't very happy and was scolding me right up to the point where I pointed out that she had no more than a year and a half ago gotten a ticket for the exact same thing. After that, she was sort of sullen the rest of the night.
So the next day, I treated her to a manicure and all seems mostly right with the world again.

Pull over and let him by.

That is, if you live in a state where they're permitted to use radar or laser while they're moving.

They have to hide in PA.

I think the last ticket I got was 59 in a 25 (school zone, but it was sunday so it didn't count) on my Monster with no mirrors, no inspection and an open shotgun exhaust I built (that boom tubes later copied [laugh] )

He didn't say a word about the bike.  He was too happy with himself that he caught me.

The nice thing about not having a single ticket in over 10 years is that my current insurance company will forgive it. If I go for another year without an issue, then me ticket "forgiveness" resets. The cop even mentioned my impeccable driving record during the stop. Something about either being really good or really lucky.  [laugh]

I got very lucky. No doubt about it.

Definitely sucked that he was using the Camaro for cover but completely permitted here in Iowa. I have some outs if I really want to be a dick but I was wrong and I really don't feel like paying an attorney $500+ to get me out of a <$400 ticket that will not count against my insurance unless I get another one in the next year.
If it was...I would definitely fight it. "Last radar calibration?" "Deputy's Radar Certification up to date? (They have to be "certified" here which is an annual 4 hour class)" "How could you have clocked the subject when you were physically too close to the car in front of you to get an accurate reading and without having a rearward facing gun?" Stuff like that...

i remember hearing that they had to be in sight and sitting still.
also, local police are not permitted to use radar in PA. Keep an eye out for timing lines and unmarked cars coming up on your 6 to pace you.

The botanist, in the office next to me, has tickets to the KISS concert coming up in Houston.  I can't think of
anything much worse.

My only ticket:

1996 or 97, Driving the neighbors car to the airport in Oakland, CA. I failed to slow to 20 mph for an old folks crossing. Got a ticket for doing 30 mph. The cop said it looked like I was having a nice day, singing along to the radio and that he was really sorry for having to write me up.

All the other speeding - just never got caught!

I drive an old truck with a huge as rear bumber. Any cop who tries to hide behind me sure as shit better be on the ball when I hit the breaks to keep from running over that squirrel. Tailgating to catch a speeder coming the other way is nothing more than a cheap trick. Nothing new about that though is there......

I love Cheap Trick. They were my first concert way back when. [bow_down]

Still dealing with this ticket after al this time...Sadly it looks like I'm gonna lose my license for a year. Hell, I am not even guaranteed a license even to go to work. And if I can't drive I can't work in my profession. Sure sucks. Lesson learned.  :'( :'( I hereby renounce hooliganism!   [drink]

I'll join in here.

Year 1996
Location Sunny San Diego

My first street legal bike. A 70's Honda 250 dual sport I bought for $300. I was living in downtown San Diego, woke up early on a Sunday and decided to go ride around the neighborhood. A few minutes later, I am pulling a sweet wheelie and see lights in my mirror as I come down out of it. Motorcycle cop  [leo]. I pulled over quick, and hit the kill switch. He got me for no M1, no insurance, no registration, no helmet (no dot sticker on my dirtbike helmet), and dangerous maneuver. Impounded my bike, and gave me a card for the local MSF program. I don't remember the fine, just that it was a lot, and I was pretty poor back then. The judge let me keep my license, but sent me to level 1 and level 2 traffic school. I don't do dangerous maneuver on the street anymore.

Best ticket I wish I'd gotten was for 60 in a 45 - on a bicycle.

I was pulled over with a group of road racers who were enjoying the aerodynamic benefits of pack riding on a relatively long, steepish downhill.

The officer realized the citations might not have the desired deterrent effect when he overheard several of my co-conspirators noting that they planned to frame the document proving they'd hit a mile a minute on a push bike, so sent us on our way with a stern talking-to and no proof for the skeptics.
