Showed some signs of an actual defense in week one. Might be interesting to see them with a pass rush.

For like a quarter the Raiders looked decent. Then they remembered who they were and went back to the suck :'(
As a Browns fan, I got to watch my team give me hope despite the ineptitude of the offense for 59 minutes of a game, just to snatch it away with a minute left. It's gonna be a long season.
Come across the middle, pretty please. ;)

I swear manning is on fire but the bronco receivers are..... just. sad. MAKE THE PLAY.
And Miami! what a botched up OT!!!!
I came up big on thursday with fantasy points, but i barely made 10 points with my 2 RB and 2TE this week. the NFL is on another universe this week!
Go Bills! They won and my Fins lost. Win some, lose some...
They've gotta get the officials back in, the replacements are terrible. Terrible calls made in all the games I saw today, they're just not qualified to officiate at that level. The coaches were getting so frustrated.
Exhibit A:
Kevin Ogletree Trips On Ref's Thrown Hat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34WzAWqI_SM#)
Felt so bad for Torrey Smith, bad way to lose a brother, I definitely wouldn't be playing if it were me.
Unbelievable finish to the game tonight.
Pack got make the beast with two backsed.
Hopefully (unfortunately) that's the tipping point to get the real refs back. :-\
Multiple terrible calls...the PI on the Seahawks, then the PI on the Packers, then the roughing the passer on the Packers, then the final no call (offensive PI) and call (touchdown). Unbelievable...the Packers got screwed.
The only silver lining is it was against the Packers. Go Bears!!! ;D
Here's the problem with the replacement refs - as long as the NFL isn't losing $2M/year from people not consuming their product (watching games via ticket sales and ad revenues), they've got no financial incentive to actually bring back competent officials. If we just complain about how terrible the officiating is but keep watching every Sunday, it makes business sense to keep the lockout going.
Sad thing is that it's going to get someone seriously hurt. In a league where players are looking for whatever advantage they can get and the refs won't enforce poor conduct rules, we'll start getting more and more hits like what happened to Darrius Heyward-Bey.
I agree, AK.
And just after Stella scored us tix (corporate freebies) to the Donkeys/Raiders game on Sunday.
Conundrum. I haz one.
Gonna go watch the Janokowski show?
I think the replacement refs thing is a plot by Don King to do his best to fix the sport like everything else he gets his hands into....look at what he did for boxing after all...J/K
Focus on the game, nobody ever bought a ticket to watch the Refs. Football is being played and some damn good football.

i happen to agree with you, and was always a fan of Marino (as much as a Pats fan can be, anyway.) that said, i think that winning a super bowl is just about EVERYTHING while a player is still active. its not until their career is over that fans/sports pundits are willing to look beyond that and recognize the bigger picture.
Winning a SB helps, but talent is recognized regardless. Marino was known to be one of the best while he played, as was Barry Sanders, even though neither won a SB.

That whole division is in shambles. Miami is looking scary with that rookie QB. The worst loss of the season was against the Texans. The other 2 were OT losses. In the same way, they have only blown out the Raiders :'( All their games in Nov can be toss ups until they meet the SeaHawks end of the month. If they come out in Nov 4-1, then they'll have a good chance of beating the Pats in Miami. Beating them at Foxborough (sp?) end of December will be another story.

I agree. Smith had the third highest passer rating in the NFL, he just came off of a game in which he completed 18/19 passes, but he was benched when he got a concussion.
Yes, Kapernick has a great upside with his tremendous arm and his speed in the open field, but he doesn't yet have the poise of Alex Smith. With Kapernick, I've seen muffed snaps, turnovers, indecisiveness, and him trying to be Peyton Manning at the line of scrimmage, which resulted in wasted timeouts or delay of game penalties.
Bottom line: Kapernick is the future but he needs more time in a developmental role; Smith does a better job of taking care of the football and running the offense.

Smith is similar to Dilfer when he was with the Ravens. Can't scramble, and no arm. Kaepernick is already better than him. No way the Niners beat the Patriots the week before with Smith at QB.
The Seahawks just flat outplayed the Niners on both sides of the ball.
Plus, with Justin Smith out the Niner's defense isn't anywhere near as good...and Vernon Davis getting knocked out early was a huge blow to the offense. Gore was bottled up as well. I think the game would have been even uglier with Smith at QB...he would have been sacked a dozen times, and there would have been zero deep threat.

Please allow me to refute: First, Smith can scramble better than most quarterbacks. He scored a TD on a QB keeper last year against the Saints, and he has been effective at throwing on the run and in the pocket. (4.6 yards per rush) Agreed, he is not the galloping stallion as is Kapernick, but still very effective when he needs to take off. And yes, he does not have the arm that Kapernick does, but Smith was the third highest rated passer in the league before his concussion. (Smith 104; Kapernick 96) Smith is extremely accurate with the football, which results in sustained drives and a rested defense. (70% completion rate) In addition, Smith takes care of the football and the offense better than Kapernick. With Kapernick I have seen a quick pitch thrown over the head of the receiver which resulted in the loss to the Rams along with several recovered fumbles and botched snaps. Kapernick has been lucky his mistakes didn't cost the team more games. Also, I have seen numerous wasted timeouts and delay of game penalties because Kapernick can't keep the offense organized and flowing, which results to 3 & outs. Note to Kapernick: You are not Peyton Manning; stop attempting to call audibles in a noisy place like Seattle. Getting a play off is better than constantly burning valuable timeouts or receiving delay of game penalties.
By the way, Dilfer did win a Super Bowl with the Ravens. What happened after they sent him packing? Answer: No more Super Bowls.
I am not saying that the Niners would have beaten the Hawks at home with Smith. I'm just saying that I want the experienced QB who can run the offense efficiently without making potentially catastrophic errors for now.
Conclusion: Smith for now, Kapernick for the future.
I'm tending to agree with you but for different reasons. From a purely skill and ability level, Kap should start. He's made some mistakes, and didn't have a great game in Seattle, but most of his mistakes are cancelled by some pretty good and big plays. His first half season of starting and he's playing and winning as well as Smith after 7 seasons. Better to get Kap more experience as fast as possible because he will be an awesome QB very soon. As competent as Smith is, he'll never ever be described as awesome. And remember, Smith threw 3 picks against the Giants, and I don't think he would have fared much better against the chainsaw that was the Seahawks last weekend.
The differences between a winning and losing team can sometimes be very small, and on what I'll call the psychic level for lack of a better term. Regardless of who is the best QB for the present, I think Harbaugh has done some undefinable but serious damage to the 49ers team and their ability to win by dumping Alex Smith the way he did. Nothing to do with Kap's play or leadership, but I'm not sure they'll survive very long in the playoffs.
We'll soon know! I waited half a year for the NFL season to start and I can hardly believe it's almost over already.

I am surprised Rex didn't get canned as well.
Let the Games Begin!
Packers over Vikings- It will be a different game on the frozen tundra in Green Bay.
Texans over Bengals- Talent plus home field = Texans Victory.
Redskins over Seahawks- Tough one to call, but Seattle hasn't been very good on the road this year.
Ravens over Colts- My heart tells me to go with the colts, but my head says Ravens should win a close one at home.

San Francisco -3.5 at Atlanta
But there is a 25% chance of a 'Har-brother Bowl.'

Huh? One was a pass tipped at the line of scrimmage...the other was in the end zone at the very end of the game when they had no chance to win anyway.
His receivers dropping multiple key 3rd down conversion passes was a much bigger problem, as was their lack of a running game.
Ravens/Niners should be a good game! [thumbsup]

So what's T Brady's legacy now? Definitely top 5 QBs all time, some would make an argument for #1 with good cause (I'm partial to Montana, but that's besides the point). But...
When Peyton was at Indy, the talk was that both were the two best in the game but that Brady was the born champion and Peyton was the guy that always came up just a little short (lone exception: SuperBowl XLI). But now, Brady has lost his last two Superbowls and an AFC Championship (where Pats were 8 pt favorites).
No doubting his talent, abilities, drive, etc. But the pure 'Winner' luster had faded rapidly for me in recent years.

NE has been in the playoffs and a threat to go to the SB
every single year. Next year will be no different. That's unbelievable in the current NFL. Nevermind he was playing with injuries the last couple years.
I'm no Pats fan, but Brady is still as solid as ever.

Ray Lewis, Randy Moss, CK7, the Harbaugh
Brothers. You can't make this shit up! We're seriously thinking about doing the 200 miles from Reno to Turlock (Kap's hometown) to watch the game. Probably have to get there real early to find empty barstools.
Anquan Boldin scares me. I don't think the 49er's can cover him. Going to be a good one!
I see the Niners as the younger team with more talent; the Ravens definitely have more "big game" experience.
If the Niners don't get to Flacco, they're in trouble. Defense needs to play better than they did against Atlanta...they can't afford to spot the Ravens a couple touchdowns early like they did Atlanta and GB.
If the Ravens don't have an answer for Kaep's scrambling then they're in trouble. I expect him to run more in the SB, though not like he did with Green Bay.
I think those are good points. I don't expect it to be an easy win for either team. That's what should make it a good game.
Niners eighty-four / Ravens negative two.
GO NINERS!! [thumbsup]

I think Kap will break a couple of good runs on unplanned scrambles, but mainly he'll tear the Ravens up passing from the pocket. Randy Moss has been biding his time and he and Kap are going to connect for a big play or two. Probably Moss' last game and he'll go out in style.
Flacco will be making some plays too - going to be a lot of fun watching this game. Going to boil down to great plays by great players on both sides.
As focused as he is, I'm concerned that all the hype he's getting is going to take the edge off of Kaepernick's game.

Well, the big day's finally here. Two great teams, it's going to be fun to watch and it's too bad someone has to lose.
I read this week that Super Bowl winning players like Troy Aikman, Emmett Smith and Michael Irvin admitted to having weak knees and hyperventilating in the huddle. During close games I have to admit to reaching states of near hyperventilation just watching the game from the comfort of home.
And the refs have checked in.

Man, I can say the first half I was upset. but more of a disappointment. Second half I really got into it. I knew it would be a great game, sad that my team didn't win...
