Hi All
I am currently living in Dubai and below is the Ducati 2012 price list for the UAE. Given an exchange rate of approx 3.88 AED to $1 AUD, does anyone know how the price of the Monster 796 and 848 EVO would compare to prices in Australia?
I am not sure whether if I buy a bike in Dubai if I should look to bring it back to Australia or just sell it and buy an new one in Sydney. I know there can be import duties etc but my understanding is that these only apply if the bike is less than 1 year old.
Any help on current prices in Australia would be helpful :-)

Well no-one else seems to be answering Simon so I'll say that the prices are $1-2k less than AU but I don't know if these prices are inclusive of on-road costs etc.
In any case, any positive price difference to your wallet would be quickly soaked up on making the bike roadworthy for AU standards or just the engineering checks and adjustments.
If you buy locally to Dubai I'd suggest you leave it there then buy one in AU. It will be a lot less painful for what in reality is probably no $ benefit.

I've been away from Sydney for about 5 years now so didn't know quite how bike prices had changed over time. You are right in that if there is only $1 or $2k difference then that would barely be enough to cover the shipping costs :( Oh well it was worth checking just in case!

Lived in Dubai for many years and thought about your idea myself but ended up buying a new Monster when i got back to Melbourne. As a suggestion (and if you have plenty of time), you could ask Dubai Ducati if they could order you a bike with Aussie compliance plates from the factory just to simplify the transfer process. You might also pick up a cheap second hand bike in the UAE (or even europe as it's not that far away) and end up with a good deal in the long run. As for actually riding a bike in Dubai, unless the local driving standards have improved heaps i would not venture out onto the road with anything less than a BIG 4x4 ;D

Shane - good idea about the compliance plates, I will ask Ducati Dubai. As for the driving conditions, no they have not changed! I resisted the urge to get a bike here for 4 years as I didn't think much of the driving standards but finally gave in about a year ago. Once you get out of Dubai it actually turns out to be a great place to ride, especially as there are plenty of roads and long routes where you hardly see other cars let alone police or speed cameras - it must be one of the few places left to ride where we have good roads but very little enforcement of any speed limits! There is also a large riding community of all types of bikes including a Ducati Owners club so there are always people to ride with :-)
