I'm a long time fan of the "Alien" series
Can't wait to see this one.
Prometheus - Official Full HD Trailer - Ridley Scott, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHcHYisZFLU#)
this trailer reveals a lot more than the previous teaser... if you like to remain spoiler-free heading into the theater, don't watch this one.
I am so ready for this
Oh hell yes.
And kind of a cool supporting teaser: http://blog.ted.com/ted2023/ (http://blog.ted.com/ted2023/)
Looking forward to this a LOT.
The Alien series is still one of the few movie series I can watch again and still get creeped out by.
Oh yes
So that is Noomi Rapace... looks a lot different w/o the goth makup and tats.
On of my fave movie memories is when a local theater managed to find an original reel of Alien just after I was out of college. if was a bit care worn, but still great to see on the big screen. Was way too young to have seen it on anything but TVs until then

yes. you also may have missed the most recent sherlock holmes movie. ;D
The only drawback with the prequel like this is that the tech is so much
more advanced that the first Alien movie. Remember when they would go in the
room and talk to Mother and it was so basic if you will. then we watch Prometheus
and the tech is so much more advanced yet takes place in the past. Maybe that's explained
in the movie, maybe it doesn't matter that much. Honestly I can't freaking wait for this to come out!!
Agreed. I always thought that room with the blinky lights was a little hokey.

simple explaination
in alien most everything is owned and operated by "the company"...private entity
most corporations are focused solely on profit
thus
the low end tech seen in the movies following promethius in timeline appears as it does because the greedy ass company is forcing its employees to operate with crap gear

That right there just convinced me to go out and watch it. Guy Pearce is such a terribly undervalued actor. I've loved all his work.
I remember seeing the 1st Alien flick in the theater and couldn't wait to go back and see it again. #2 Aliens was even better in some respects. Went downhill after that in my opinion. But I am amped up to see what they do with this one. The first Alien film is one of my top 2-3 sci-fi films ever. [popcorn] [bow_down] [bacon]
The one spot on the original movie where I thought they dropped the ball was "Mother's" room.
here we have an interstellar refinery ship with the capability of refining ore autonomously.
yet you talk to the ships computer via a Commodore 64 type interface? But that's the 2012 me talking like
this, not the 1979 me. Way back then I thought it was cool as all hell that they were talking to a computer.
I really put the first two movies, Alien and Aliens in the top tier as well as far as Sci-Fi goes.
Up there with Blade Runner and other cutting edge films of the time.
Ya know. I went out and read the synopsis on this film and I think a prequel to Alien isn't going to be the case so much
as a movie that takes place prior to Alien with some of the original characters, ie. the space jockey, the company, some type of xenomorph. This movie is going to be about the origins of mankind and alien DNA rather than the kickass let's kill
aliens as the main plot line. Though I hope there is lots of "lets kill aliens" in this movie.
This is an interesting read. Technically its AVP but does cover the whole Alien timeline

Blade Runner remains my fave sci-fi flick.....
As for Prometheus....
finally, something worthy of seeing in the theater. [thumbsup]
Face it, Battlefield Earth is the best, EVER!
Two cases of beer, three or four irreverent wise-cracking friends, and you'll laugh so hard you sides will ache for days.
Now THAT'S SciFi I can get behind.

Looks like a bad road trip. I'd start looking for a new job ASAP. [laugh] Nothing good happens on distant planets inhabited by critters with shitty attitudes. ;D
Don't see the wifely unit seeing this with me at the theater, not her cup of tea. But I LOVE the first Alien movies and good sci-fi in general... like Blade Runner. [thumbsup] Sounds like this will be an all guy movie trip like Senna. [popcorn] [bacon]

I really don't want to have to wait another month to see this. Actually longer because opening night just sucks.
[bang]
I don't do opening nights either. Actually, it's rare that I go see a movie in the theater.
But for this, I'm considering it

I saw Aliens 1st, I was on School Holidays, saw a film about Aliens in the Screening times (knew nothing about the 1st Film) somehow got into the Film (can't Remember the Australian Rating at the time, all I know I was to young) Had the Shit scared of of me, but loved every second of it. This is now my most loved Film Franchise.
I was debating which film to see on the Big Screen, This or Dark Knight Rises. (My Nearest Quality Cinema is over an Hour away)
The more I see, the more I think this will be the one, And Dark Knight will be a wait to see it on Bluray deal.
I just hope Ridley doesn't cut this back to a PG13 film, if so I may wait until he release it on Bluray, at least he has said it will be an unrated cut when it's released.
So many good movies are being ruined to get a PG13 rating for the American Market.

I watched the original Alien movie as a child. I will never understand why my parents would do that to me. Same with Poltergeist. I could not sleep for weeks.
Alien will forever be known in my house as the movie with the green eggs.
Poltergeist, last movie that ever scared me... all so called horror movies afterwards served me no purpose.
And it was rated PG-13
I was about 6 when I saw it..

My parents did the same thing to me. Took me to all the scary movies. We went to the drive in weekly in the 70s and saw double feature. Typically one of the movies was a horror, i.e.: Rabid, Texas Chainsaw, Hills have Eyes, etc. They wonder why I was scared of the dark!! Step Dad took me to see American Werewolf and Alien at the movie theater. I was under my seat half the time!! Those two were the worse because the effects were so good! Then my dad bought me the 16" Alien figure with the head that glowed in the dark. WTF?!
Can't wait for this one! Still Gives me chills though thinking about that first one.

Two parts that totally freaked me out back then:
The part where the guy picks a little at his face in the bathroom mirror and then proceeds to basically pull his entire face off.
The part with that make the beast with two backsing clown doll.

So Weyland Industries is the same Weyland from AVP and person played by Lance Henriksen?
Quote from: ItsaDuc on May 04, 2012, 08:14:07 AM
So Weyland Industries is the same Weyland from AVP and person played by Lance Henriksen?
Yup.
There are two possible Bishops in the universe that could be the template for the Bishop android - and all three were played by Lance in the various movies. Charles Bishop Weyland is the original founder of Weyland Industries, and 300 years later (during Aliens3) we are introduced to Micheal Bishop, a WY employee who bears a great likeness to Charles and is a synthetic component designer, who designed the Bishop android series in the joint likeness of himself and Charles. Of course, there's also theories that the Michael Bishop we see in Aliens3 is actually an android...
Wouldn't be surprised to see Lance making some kind of cameo in Prometheus, as Peter Weyland is Charles Bishop Weyland's son who takes over the company and launches it on the trajectory to become the massive Company that we see later in the timeline in the Alien movies.
Thanks guys for putting up the link correctly

I love the quote from the article - "we're not going to compromise the movie one bit, so we're going with whatever the MPAA gives it"
Gotta love a director that believes in the film first and foremost, and damn compromising for the money-grubbing studio wanting to maximize ticket sales.

If it was shot for 3D it could be great in 3D. The technologies are vastly improved from the days of red/green cardboard glasses. ;)
Personally, I plan on seeing it in the XD/Real 3D theater about 5 blocks from my house.

So just because its played in 3d doesn't mean it was shot in 3d, correct?

Right. They have ways to convert a 2d film to 3d, which basically means using CGI to "lift" certain elements (usually peripheral items) to give the effect some.
A real 3d film has 2 or 3 cameras simultaneously shooting in parallax so the depth is real.
Just read the wiki. .
it was filmed entirely in 3D.
So 3d it is :D

it's a prequel too. think about it.
Yeah, I get that, but they put a ton of emphasis on how it takes place in a time before Alien and in the same universe, but other than that has nothing to do with that film series.
