My search for the perfect monster seems to be converging on the 1100evo - starting to work with the dealer on the exact package to order, and my question is "to Termi, or not to Termi ?"
I'm looking for
- lighter weight - anyone know how much the weight difference is ?
- smoother low end power - anyone got a before/after Dyno read out of stck vs. termi to show what and where the performance differences are ? (I saw one for the Arrow which shows the power curves for that system)
- less heat off the engine (dealer says that the cat converters in the stock pipes get very hot - is this true ?)
- at not much (if any) more decibels than stock
cosmetic improvements - I quite like the look of the stock pipes - though I would prefer them up out of the way to show off the SSSA ... the Termi's don't accomplish that - but do look nice in carbon
What is the difference between the S/S termi and the carbon Termi - just $200 and some aesthetics ? Is there much of a weight difference...

carbon termis will be the coolest to the touch.
the Titanium ones I think are the only with the cats still in it, so check that if you go that route.
and I think they all still keep the exhaust valve which helps with noise tests as well.
the termis all have a removeable baffle, rumor is that with the baffle it's less than stock on db, but I would be surprised if that's true.
carbon or Ti will be the lightest.
If you want to show off that SSSA then boomtubes are your choice. Will cost almost as much as the termi's for a super sexy look and sound. May be a little hard to get ahold of Mark at motocreations however.

Only she said....

The boomtubes are waaay louder than stock.
If I had the coin I would go with the carbon termi system but I don't so I went with this http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=55593.0 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=55593.0)
and coincidentally it shows off the SSSA. [beer]
Looking at this same option as my next (first?) serious move.
- For lighter weight, obviously carbon is the choice. As you have already noted, the "shiny" termis are stainless steel, not titanium.
- Smoother low-end power - This is what I'm after too. My EVO is still pretty cranky below 4000 rpm, so I'll be watching for responses to your thread. Consenses seems to be that they smooth out at around 1500 miles, so maybe no big deal.
- The cats definitely throw off a lot of heat. But they're behind your boot, so not really noticeable. You'll definitely notice the heat off of the rear header though, especially sitting at a stoplight.
Bear in mind that the ss termis are EU approved, vs the "racing" carbon version. This means (I think) that they still pack the cats, and probably don't have removable dB killers.
My own $.02 worth is why pay $200.00 more for the "lesser" system unless you just go for the shiny look. Luckily, the stock system still sounds pretty darn good while you're trying to make up your mind.
IMO break it in before you drop the cash. The stock cans also get louder with some miles. Fit the 14T and 3,500 RPM will be a lot more tolerable after 1,200+ miles. Really... Now, if you're short of power... 8)
What are they hitting you for Amoco out there these days? Heard Santa Barbara was one of the most expensive places for gas in the U.S. !!! :(
I tried ordering Boomtubes from Mark but was informed that there first needs to be a working DucEE for the 1100EVO... which there is not. He said some firm in San Francisco has one but it only works 1/2 the time.
I was in the same position as you were with my evolution. I decided to go with the spark high mount. And I'm really excited. I should be getting it in a couple of weeks.

New member, new Monster owner...
I just purchased a new 2012 Monster 1100evo in January. Right off of the floor I had them fit the Termi "slip-on" system. I absolutely love them. Now I am a first time Ducati\Monster owner and have been riding in line and V4 bikes my whole life. So listening to the new deep, throaty, beautiful to my ears sound of an L-twin so far hasn't gotten old and I don't see it happening anytime soon. So take that into account when reading...
Weight: Can't attest to any weight savings but just looking at them compared to the factory exhaust and the fact that they are carbon tells me there is at least a little bit of savings there...
Smoother low end power: So far I have just under 1000 miles on this bike and anything below about 4k gets a little grumpy. Maybe it will smooth out in time who knows, i will let you know. I also plan on changing the front sproket to the 14t as that seems to be the thing to do to help with in town rideability. That being said, I remind you that I have nothing to compare it to. Neither how it performed with factory exhaust (other than a test ride of a bone stock unit) nor any previous Ducati models.
Heat: There is some noticeable heat under the toosh on warmer days at stoplights but nothing worth getting in a twist about. I suppose some or most of that could be attributed to the fact that it's an air cooled motor as well.
Now the big one, the sound: I am a firm believer that most people don't pay attention to what's going on around them when driving their cars (I'll admit to being overly distracted myself most of the time). So, the more noise the better as far as I'm concerned. If they dont see me they should darn well hear me. Some will yell at me for saying that but I would rather be safe than sorry. The termi system sans db killers is music to my ears, definitely loud but not obnoxiously so. I know that somewhat of any oxymoron but it's true. It's loud but sounds so good that it just seems ok... Don't be a jerk with the throttle driving through neighborhoods and you can keep the noise within an acceptable level. I have no idea what they sound like with the db killers installed. I never even got them from the dealer after the install, so I'm no help there.
So there ya go, the termi system may be a little loud for you without the db killers but considering they look so good sound so good and just simply work without any dyno hassle maybe you can deal with the volume...
All this being said, that spark high mount system would have made me lose sleep at night trying to decide... Glad I didn't know about them when I was looking for exhaust systems... They look and sound fantastic...
Here is a quick shot of me bike... Termi slip-on system, slightly modified evotech tail tidy, and a set of bar end mirrors from Rizoma... It's a good start for my first Ducati...

Beautiful looking bike ! Back to Black !
I looked at the SPark too - I do like the "tucked up under the tail" look, and the exposed SSSA. Can't really tell, but I would be concerned about compromising rear wheel travel - wouldn't the tire hit the pipes going over a bump ? And probably also means that any side mounted luggage is a no go ...

There aren't any clearance issues with the high mount system, that type of system has been stock on the monster since 2008. And side mounted luggage is available, here is a pic to show how it would mount...

the sparks for the evo is very different. it's supertight on the tail and make specifically for the desmoworld short tail that makes for the pipes tucked in so tight.
i dont think any of the side luggage frames would fit on them.
Thanks Raux,
The link to the desmoworld chopped tail was something I was beginning to suspect as I read more about the Spark system - thanks for confirming that. That pretty much puts the Spark system off my shopping list and I'm back to either staying stock or going termi-nal ..

Thanks Duchess...
It's a work in progress, more black to come as the cash becomes available. Charcoal canister is coming off this weekend as I have finally received the euro LH shroud. I'm working on a mod to the factory tail light to change it to an integrated type. You can buy these aftermarket pretty readily now, but after looking at the guts of the factory unit I think I can develop a mod a little to no cost. I'll post a how-to if I can get it to work well and it is straight forward enough.
The Sparks setup looks as though the passenger pegs have been forgone as well. Although they may still work with that setup but have been removed for aesthetics.
The Spark exhaust still has room for the passenger pegs. And they send you the tail chop kit included in the sale price of the exhaust. [thumbsup]

Dangit Mugen! I've been trying to give myself reasons not to go out and buy ANOTHER exhaust system for my bike and you are blowing it for me! [bang] Would you PLEASE let me find just ONE fault with this system so I can convince myself not to spend another couple of grand... LOL...
Not going to get any sleep tonight...
Pete...
lol....my apologies. I was looking for an exhaust for over 8 months. So I've been excited to have finally decided on the spark. If it's any consolation I might have to return the exhaust if it doesn't fit due to my custom rear cowl. :)
I haven't seen the Spark system on an 1100 evo but have on other bikes at MotoWheels and their quality is Great. I almost bought them but I'm wanting to keep the rear area as clean as possible.
