Playoffs start this Wednesday. Who you got?
I think my horse(Wings) will be out first round, but who knows.
East
1Rangers v 8senators
2Bruins v 7Caps
3Panthers v 6Devils
4Pens v 5 Flyers
West
1Canucks v 8Kings
2Blues v 7Sharks
3Coyotes v 6Blackhawks
4Preds v 5Wings
I also cant wait for the Pens/Flyers series, those ought to be great games.
Rangers all the way..
I'd like the Caps...but between Ove having lost his mojo and the Caps just barely making it through....and the fact that Hunter hasn't kicked them in the ass like expected and seems to be more like Boudreau in results ( not that he is/was a bad coach at all-I just didn't think it was the right move for the team)...
that being said..it be interesting to see the final be Wings vs. Panthers

That's pretty much what I had too. I'm really pulling for the Devils so we can see a rematch of that last game between them and the Rangers.
I cna't watch the east objectively. I know this about myself. I wind up cheering for the refs and injuries.
however, in the west i would take the blues or the canucks. Predators and coyotes I will pull for in the first round as well.
5 for 5

I'll let y'all figure it out.
the Canadians a didn't make it :'( :'( ..I would pick the Bruin because I really don't like the senators ;D

He only got a roughing call, so I doubt it, but you never know.
How do the two least penalized teams all season combine for that debacle? Oh right, Gary Bettman is in the stands watching. I understand wanting to call the games better in the playoffs, but that was pretty lame. The philly/pit game had a total 8 penalty minutes the whole game....come on.
LA was strong tonight.
Is it just me or did the ice in Nashville seem really bad last night? It looked like there were lots of bouncing and rolling pucks.

The bigger loss for the Wings is Darren Helm being lost for the balance of the playoffs with lacerated tendons in his arm from a skate.
Yeah, losing Helm hurts, especially the penalty kill.
Toews is playing tonight, first time in 22 games.
Great stuff tonight, 3 OT games. [clap] we're just getting started and this is already looking like a great playoff.
Everyone but Panthers/Devils have played. Heres how it looks so far.
East
1Rangers v 8Senators (1-0)

Not much magic. Shanahan gave Asham 4 games for his crosscheck on chin and punch. Gave Neal 1 game for hit on Giroux, even though he was involved in 2 incidents in that game.

that's exactly my point.
he makes a point of talking about whether or not a player has had previous infractions, warnings, suspensions, etc.
shaw got 3 games for hitting a keeper with no problems in his career. neal gets 1 game for going headhunting twice with 2 previous warnings and a fine.
it's been just as inconsistent the rest of the year. I'm just more upset by it with how rough these games have been. esp with hossa being taken off on a stretcher.

Two things on the Shaw hit - one, he's a rookie, so he doesn't have much of a history of
anything... two, and this is the bigger of the two - goalies are special. In the rules and in hockey culture, goalies are just treated differently. I'm speaking as a huge Hawks fanboy, and when I saw that hit during that game I said "Shaw's gone for two." So three games for that one seems about right to me. Regardless, my main thrust here is that the Shaw hit shouldn't be considered in the same context as the rest of the thuggery because of the involvement of the goalie. Evaluating the suspensions for consistency is easier when you set the Shaw/Smith incident completely aside.
'Cuz once you get that one hit out of there, you can then clearly see that Shannahan has no f'ing clue what the hell he's doing.

////Shanahan Fight Video///
I actually think that's part of the problem... Shanny played during a time when the players self-policed - mostly at the end of what I lovingly refer to as the "goon era." You knew if you crossed the line with a dirty hit, there were immediate consequences. Like, if Weber pulled that sh#t with Hank Z with Shanny on the ice, Shanny would have dealt with Weber immediately.
What we've got now is the "rat era." The rule changes that open up the game make the fighter-only players obsolete, and the rule changes that penalize brawling behavior are keeping enforcers from protecting stars. Shannahan really only played for a couple of seasons during the onset of the "rat era," so he doesn't have the mindset down. He's still waiting for the players to regulate the behavior.
My $0.02.

I knew the pens would come out with their heads on right last night. the flyers have never played well after a brawl like that. nobody was making any hits, the game was very slow, and it's like they gave up afterthe pens scored.
glad that rinaldo will be gone. i swear that guy has an auto-deduct on each paycheck that goes straight to the fine bucket. We always joke that he gets 2 min just for getting on the ice.
You had to know the refs were going to call EVERYTHING. anything resembling a fight and you are out of the game.
i also blame the assholes that started the "you can't beat us" chant. we are not the rangers. [thumbsdown]
i remember the days between the AV's and Detroit..i think it's interesting, and worth noting that Shanahan liked to get in there and grapple and punch,...even if he also took some licks. seems like today they try and hold the other guy off and look for a shot.
regardless,..he reminds me of Lucic.

It's a glitch in the matrix - they changed something.
i was going to be pissed if that last push on Holtby, which happened *after* the clock *should* have been up had resulted in a goal. THough I hope they would review since everyone noticed the freaky clock action
Holtby's been unbelievable. Some really fantastic netminding is getting overshadowed by all the thuggery... Smith is absolutely stealing the Chicago/Phoenix series, Elliot's been great for STL, and "The Pekker" is freakin' standing on his head against Detroit.

Had a different event to be at last night so I was forced to check the Caps scores on the phone at random down points. Not a fun way to follow a tight game 7.
Caps go through... but the need to let up on the OT games and last chance come backs. I'm stressin'
I'm just glad i can go back to hating the caps. :)
It's hard enouff trying to repeat, let alone trying to repeat with a PP% of 2-23. [drink] They weren't playing their best and it showed.
C!, A!, P!, S! CAPS!, CAPS!, CAPS!
Great ending to a tense game with crap call all night. [thumbsup]

Still another round to go before any potential match up between the Flyers and Caps. Which would leave me conflicted at Philly is where I was born and DC's been my home for a long time....

if you know philly then you should know why i have to hate the caps.
I only cheered for them because i can't stand boston. now that they finished them off i will congratulate them for a jhob well done and go back to hating them. though i have less hatred for them than i do the rangers and the devils. I'm really hoping for the stadium to collapse in the senators-rangers game tonight, but if that won't happen then i want the senators to win. of course i want the panthers to win as well. [laugh]
i know my reaction to games in the east is governed mainly for how much i love the flyers and an equal amt of how much i dislike other teams. i already admitted i can't watch the east objectively

Least you're honest about the motivations [thumbsup]
First (live) hockey game ever was a Flyers - Pens games in the early 80s. Good life lessons to be learned for a little boy from that game... 'Get them before they get you' is what I took from it ;D
Nasty collision between 2 of the Panthers. [popcorn]
Rangers move forward. What a make the beast with two backsing game. [clap]
loving the end of regulation in the panthers-devils game
Panthers take the Devils to OT in game 7. It don't get no better than this. [clap]
Double OT and the goaltenders are awesome. [clap]
Wow, what a game. Devils move on to play the flyers. [clap]
Ok, I didn't do too well. (no one else made pics :P)
2-2 in the East
2-2 in the West
Go rangers... get some..
Second Round Match-ups
East
1Rangers v 7Caps
5FLyers v 6Devils
West
2Blues v 8Kings
3Coyotes v 4Preds
the East looks like it could have some good games. Not sure about the West. I think the Coyotes/Preds are going to be about as boring a series as it gets.
Ill take Rangers/Flyers in the East and Blues/Preds in the West.
is it so wrong to cheer for injuries and the refs?
I do love that it's all local rivals for the east. there will be some great games
idk enough about the rivalries in the west.
there are also a few people who i will not be friends with for a few weeks. lol
i was loving the games last night. the double ot nearly beat me, but i stayed awake!

You mean injuries to the refs? ;)
Only took the coyotes 7 min. To figure out Rhinne.
Preds look like a team who has had too much time off.
I'm gonna go with
East. Caps-Flyers
West. Predators-Blues

Terrible penalty call against the Caps at the end of the third.
Although the call was quite a bit late.....it was still the correct call to make.
i've watched the replay a few times and there was no hook.
the game should not have gone to OT.
however, I'll take the win. [thumbsup]
didn't get to watch any of the other games.

The Kings are bringing it. [popcorn]
Boys are getting a little physical.
i feel like a knob...i actually fell asleep during the game... :-[
East
1Rangers v 7Caps (1-1)
5FLyers v 6Devils (1-0)
West
2Blues v 8Kings (0-2) LA is on fire.
3Coyotes v 4Preds (2-0) Coyotes have figured out Rhinne
The Devils are all up in the Flyers ass tonite. [popcorn]
the first period was ok..after that the boys in orange seemed to forget they had to actually want to win.
devils kept giroux, hartsy, and jagr silent all night. i'm not a fan. >:(

If they sweep this series, they are gonna win it all.
i'm very grumbly today.
that was dissapointing.
and i'm not convinced about the goalie interference.
I dig the Predators mustard yellow sweaters. 8)
Haha! Game 5 here we come
The Kings are the first through this round. Quick made some unbelievable saves today. [clap]
Flyers are in trouble now.
this is not going as well as i had hoped... :(
at least we made it out of the frist round
Say it with my now Trav C A P S... you're welcome on my band wagon.
Of course saying that the Rangers are going to maul the caps, hurt Ovie, Holtby, Chimera, Green and Liech... I've done a bad thing.
Cowboy up and get it done... jebus!
8 shots to 1 :-\
Rangers take it in OT, that penalty against Ward really hurt. [bang]

Ward was giving me some flash backs with that flailing stick at the end of the 3rd.

I went 1-4. Not much better. Only had the Rangers moving on.
At least we get the Rangers/Devils matchup I was hoping for. I have a feeling it will be somewhat anti-clamatic though.
Ive bet against the Kings the first 2 rounds, not sure they can be the only 8th seed to take down 1, 2, 3 seed, but who knows. Quick seems unbeatable.
I only had the kings, so I can't claim anything better. Not sure who'd like like to see for the Cup games at this point.
I was pretty much wrong on all my guesses.
Now i get to watch 2 teams i don't like beat up on each other.
was fun watching LA-phoenix last night.

Yep, and the Coyotes have a bad case of the stupids.
The Coyotes need to play every minute of the next two games like they did their last several penalty kills if they expect to lengthen the series past 4 games. They just seemed lifeless through the first 2 and 1/2 periods. Then they seemed to put their brains in the penalty box, and played old school 70's hockey for the next 5 minutes, which the league just won't tolerate today.
Looking forward to tonight's Game Two for the Rangers/Devils series.
I expect things to be a bit warmer on the ice tonight. They played too nice-nice for that series' history.
Watch for the Devils to throw everything they have at the Rangers in the first period, including fists, if needed.
BC.

what are ya tryin to say?...you sat down to watch the fights and a hockey game broke out?
Devils even it up. [evil]
The power forecheck in the corners was missing from Game 1.
In Game 2, it was there, in spades.
Getting 5 or 6 people crammed against the board, and people "mysteriously" start falling over, and bumps from behind that send people out of the pile, only for them to come back in, sending someone else face first into the boards.
You know, East Coast hockey.
BC.

Was this English?
Embellishing or not it was boarding, a potentially dangerous maneuver for the one being hit from behind, and a stupid play made by a team trying to come back from a deficit. Plus he was bleeding, and it's expected of a player to look out for his team and not himself, he was seeing if defense in front of the net was needed. The penalty was warranted and the Kings capitalized, part of the game.

Yes, but only because teams like the Oilers and the Islanders make them look good in comparison.
Luckily the people that live 3 houses down who fly a Red Wings flag all year long sold their house and will be moving away.
Small victory. I had fun the other year buying a bunch of stuffed penguin toys, and surrounding the flagpole with them after Detroit lost the cup.

penalty was warranted, you don't go in to "finish the chack" when the guy is facing the boards, two feet out. it's boarding. TBH, I was expecting a double minor, not the major.
that hit right in front of the player benches? not nearly as vicious, although it could've been called.
I was glad that the game looked more like what NHL playoff hockey should be (and was).

Ducatigirl meant that she is a fan of any and all Canadians, so she's hoping that next year's cup hoisting team has Canadians on it, just like every year.
She might even be hoping that a Canadian Team wins it.
Doesn't matter to her if it happens to be the Ottawa Senators, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Edmonton Oilers, the Winnipeg Jets, Calgary Flames or the Vancouver Canucks.
I doubt anyone would truly want to have the Canadiens from Montreal win the cup, though.
Not someone who likes Canadians, anyway. (separatism joke, don't mind me).
