Title: Hello all
Post by: wasta on April 16, 2012, 06:19:08 AM
Hi guys'

Just signed up to day, it looks like a good forum.

A bit about me,

I'm from the UK, but am in Kuwait working on the US bases there and have been for nearly four years. I have a 1999 Monster 900 which I bought on my last R&R and a 2009 Yamaha R1.

Well I'm sure I will be hitting you up for info on the monster which I had planned to cafe racer, but, I fell in love and I'm going to keep her pretty standard. I've ordered an Oberon clutch pressure plate and half cover, a full length belly pan, some ride hight adjusters. All I need now are some Renthal bars  a pair of bar end mirrors and a pair of cans and she'll be right.

Welcome - the 900 is a tough motor. But being new to Ducs there's at least one thing to know. The cam drive belts are spec'd for replacement at 12k miles of use OR 2 years of life from installation, whichever comes first. As it's an older bike it might well have older belts as well. If you don't know the age of the belts, or if they are over either of those milestones I suggest you replace them.

On the good new side, it's very easy on that era of 2v duc.

Thanks for the heads up Sad Panda (great name). The belts were changed just before I got the bike. The previous owner had stripped the bike and powder coated the frame and wheels black and replaced all the bearings on it. The motor was serviced at the same time the belts were done.

I will post a few pics in the relevent section.

I must say this is the best Monster forum I've found, loads of info for up and coming projects and a very friendly community.

Very good. New bearing isn't a cheap job either depending on how many were done.

Yeah, the name was actaully stuck on me after making a comment. Logged in one day and found my name changed - so I decided to own it.
