Title: my 0.5 seconds of fame
Post by: The Bacon Junkie on April 18, 2012, 11:00:15 AM
So, back in December, when I was driving from Santa Barbara to Connecticut, I stayed a couple of nights with an old buddy in Kansas City.

I told him I wanted to get some real-deal KC BBQ, so he took me to a Shamrock gas station...

No, really!

Turns out, there's an amazing BBQ joint in the back of the mini-mart section of said gas station!

Well, after a plate of ribs, brisket, red beans (made with bacon!!!), rice, and pickles, I went back up to the counter to get a double order of burnt ends for the road, as I was continuing my trek eastward the next day...  As we were walking out, Anthony Bourdain was walking in.  I held the door for him, he said "Thanks..."

Well, now Whimsy and I are famous!  Well, at least for about 0.5 seconds!  [laugh]

pause at 0:44.  We're on the right half of the screen.  I'm wearing the blue beanie, my buddy is sitting to my left, and Whimsy is looking out the window (hard to see him...)

Whimsy pigging out....   :D

Maybe this belongs in the NOGAS thread...   ;)

Noooo... I give a shit!!! [popcorn] [bacon] [bow_down] There is nothing on this planet better than good BBQ! OK... maybe a really good migas/tex mex breakfast. That's just the Texan in me talking. ;)

Here's my favorite:

Dean Fearing (ex chef of The Mansion on Turtle Creek) used to have Clark's cater meals at The Mansion... what does that say? [thumbsup]

I just watched that KC episode of No Reservations last night...

Bourdain makes me laugh...

I remember one show, he was duck hunting with some rednecks

and described ducks as "marginally brighter than a Kardashian"

Yeah...the best BBQ in KC is from the hidden places and holes in the wall. Pretty sweet you were there the day Bourdain was visiting.

better than my couple seconds
I was on the news when I was a kid. My father brought my brother and I to see the over the top Christmas decorations on the houses in Howard Beach and the news was there. My brother and I stood out because we were wearing Lazer Tag stuff and were holding the little guns.  [laugh]

That looks sooooooo gooooood!   [drool]

(yeah, not doing the veggie thing anymore...twas the bacon muffins that did it you bastard! [cheeky])

Was in Winston-Salem North Carolina a few weeks ago and went to the "best bbq in town".  Very disappointed...guess NC just isnt my style.  But that thick, smokey KC style sure is!!

Off the top of my head, the icing is:
1/2 cup butter  (1 stick)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 Tablespoons pure maple syrup (not that flavored corn syrup crap!)
6 cups powdered sugar
[evil]
[bow_down]
[drool]

pardon me if I leave cupcake time

I DVR everything anymore and watched this episode last night. I saw you and paused it and told my wife that I knew (sorta) the guy in the Beany. She in turn gave me the BFD face. girls, what can you do.

That place looked great and made me long for good BBQ. not the vinegar based stuff here in NC.

Congrats
