2004 vintage.
2500HD quad cab, 8' bed.
Just doing research at this point. 8' bed and decent payload are key for me. Nit looking to buy new. Too much money.
3 Coworkers each have one, though slightly newer.
Love em. [thumbsup] No issues at all.
Rode in my boss's last week, plush for a truck.
You can tweak them to make silly power, you know. [evil]
I passed on it. Too expensive for me.
Cheaper to keep running my half ton and make extra trips because of the short bed.
:)
you can always do the gas hog 8.1 engine with the Allison transmission. ;)
I've been eyeballing the diesels for a long time....a somewhat tight turning radius is a big issue for me, as is being able to carry 8' stuff, dry. The short beds are too short.
I wish they would put a diesel in the Avalanche. My first one had an 8.1 and that thing was a BEAST!
The best gas mileage I got out of it was 11mpg......worst gas mileage was also 11. Didn't have the Allison.

You're probably right. That vehicle never made much sense to me. Much in the same way a Ridgeline doesn't make much sense.
But I digress.
ML needs fuel prices to rise about 25-40 cents per gallon and used diesel trucks will be more affordable again.
Well, I don't need a diesel per se. Just something that can move at least 2k lbs in the bed.
If I were to buy new I probably would lean toward gas.
Used, diesel might be ok if the price is right.

What he means is that, if either had a Toyota badge on the front, they'd be the greatest invention since the dry clutch [cheeky]
ML, I guess it doesn't matter now, but everything I've heard about the duramax and Allison combo has indicated that they're pretty well bulletproof.
Thanks for all the info everyone.
Its early in the game for me to buy but never too early to look and learn.
I don't need the truck now but by the end of the year ill be wanting one bad.
My other thought was a deuce and a half. They're going for 9-20k, huge payload, nobody else here has one and they're bad ass :)
Time will tell.
Duramax Diesel VS Mustang (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CE4SLTwmEeU&feature=youtube_gdata_player#)
See, told ya.
Mid 11's run [evil]
Drag Race - Duramax Diesel Mid 11's @ 121 MPH (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mC5OOl1egzU&feature=youtube_gdata_player#)
That's awesome
Lol, that's almost the exact same et and mph I ran on my 06 triumph 675 (11.94@121)...

These were really fun to try and wholesale into Denver and Wyoming back in the day. :P

Only problem with that is the bed hieght...
Why would that be a problem?
I imagine it would make it harder to load and unload the bed. Especially if you're dealing with extremely heavy items that necessitate having the capacity of a vehicle like that...

Nothing was wrong with it. It was just expensive. I own pretty much what my 1/2 ton is worth so I'd loose out if i traded.
I did more research on the M35's and I may seriously look for a bobbed M35A3 which has the higher horse power turbo diesel and Allison auto trans. Or maybe a stock one and I'll bob it.
This would work

That thing is badass and at 16,500 miles damn near brand new!
Every one I've looked at has been 30k miles or less and military maintained just before it was cut loose and sold into the civilian market.
Lots of cash wasted but a bonus for me (if I end up getting one)
hell of a drive to DIMBY.........
just sayin..
Its a hell of a drive or ride no matter what I'm in/on

It's not like you're driving across Kansas, or something... ;)

Longer on two wheels.

I drive from here to Grattan in 15 hours.
Granted there are few stops but I've done it alone in that time.
You're a lot more than 3 hours from there...no?
GPS says 675 miles and just under 10 hours
Add in fuel, food and traffic and you have 11-12 hours easy

excuses for going slow... :-*
The trip to Dimby seems to bend physics. No matter how fast or slow I go or what rout I take it takes me the same amount of time.
When I rode home on my old 675 I averaged above 100mph for the last 3 hours. It still took about 12 hours.
I don't understand. I stopped asking questions about the time of dimby3.
I run 68-72mph when I truck to Dimby.
You run more than that going to MI don't you?
Yeah...
70-80.

I had a friend in college with one of those. Except it had been beat on by baseball size hail. Terrible car.
Took my first over 100 mile trip in the new to me Silverado 2500. 22 mpg!! It was to the beach and back so very flat. Makes me feel a little better about the 12mpg in town.
That's not too shabby
And thats on chunky 285s with my foot in it! Truck came with intake and exhaust, just put a Hypertech Stage 2 tune on it. Pulls like a banshee, whatever that means!
