South East Ohio. This is on state route 78 about 8 miles east of mcconolsville.
The bucket is all that is left of Big Muskie, the worlds largest drag line shovel. It removed overburden to expose coal vanes. In other words it was used for strip mining. It was also the worlds largest land moving machine. It was dismantled in 1999.

Yep, people from around here talk about seeing it on the horizon from the highway back in the day.
Although presented by the COCC as a consolation gesture to those who had advocated for the entire machine's preservation as a museum, the bucket was actually donated primarily because Mayer-Pollock determined the hardened steel of the bucket was too thick to cut with acetylene torches and would cost more to cut with explosives and thermal lances than the metal itself was worth in scrap.
Crafty ;)
That thing is as they say "WICKED AWESOME!" [thumbsup]
I wish I had the chance to see the whole machine in action.
