Anyone know the link In DMF forum where a bike stored in garage, the tank exploded during a house fire?
I was trying to show that to an apt dweller in my complex and show him that he really should not store his bike inside without the tank taken off and drained oil.
I searched but can't find it.
And yes, I am guilty I have stored my bike indoors in the past.
The tank exploding wasn't the cause, it was a result, I'm pretty sure.
Raux - yep indeed. I definitely need to go back to grammar school :-(

Really, you would drain the oil before storing a bike indoors?
Draining the oil seems a bit much. If things got hot enough to cause the oil to combust that area is make the beast with two backsed regardless of a few quarts of oil, which doesn't burn that vigorously even when you do get it going.
I'd be more afraid of flammable compressed gasses - hair spray etc etc. Not much volume of stuff - but when they go...
What about cars in a garage or is there something specific about bikes?
HOLY TANK BOMB, BATMAN! I have 2 exploding motorcycles in the garage right now!!

THAT is funny!
Lol I know when I tried to store my bike at u-haul storage long ago that is what they required - drain oil and ofcourse no gas. I never did end up storing it.
hell when you ship overseas they only require gas emptied and battery disconnected
