I'm Ready!

It's the one time of the year that I sit on my butt and  [popcorn] [drink] all day long, and watch racing for 24 hours...well, how ever many hours are shown on SPEED  >:(

I supplement with radio Le Mans when it's not on TV.

I wonder if this new speed2.com will have the entire 24 hour feed?

There or maybe ESPN3 (online aka espn.go).

My best friend, Price Cobb, raced on the factory Jaguar XJR12/Walkinshaw team out of England and won it in 1990! [thumbsup] My best memory of Le Mans is the time Ford won it in 1966 with the GT-40 MK II and finished 1-2-3 putting Ferrari on the trailer! [popcorn] [bow_down] A historic race by any means! [wine]

Speed and Speed.com will have the full 24 hour coverage sponsored by Corvette again like they did last year I do believe.

I also recommend www.radiolemans.com (//http://) for commentary. They're simply the best when it comes to Le Mans coverage.

I don't understand the benefit of a hybrid race car?  When, if ever, does the electric motor click in?  In the video it sounds like the engine is engaged the entire time.

I'm not familiar with how Toyota's doing it, but generally....
A hybrid will, instead of using brakes to slow the car, use a generator to charge up a battery, and will then use that battery power to supplement speed or acceleration via an electric motor.

as cool sounding as the Toyota is, I think the Audi R18 will prevail unless some idiots out there start wrecking them off the course like last year

which one, the "R18 ultra" or the "R18 e-tron-quattro" (hybrid)?  ;D

well...the E-Tron Quattro Hybrid didn't race last year...

the Ultra's were doing VERY well last year...so I expect similar results this year from them...unless ( as I said before) some idiot in a supporting class car like a Ferrarri makes a bonehead move or something like that....

the ultras didn't either, iirc.

2011: R18
2012: R18 ultra + R18 e-tron quattro

the way I understand it, the 2011 R18 is basically the R18 Ultra, just some minor mods/updates...hence why I said what I said...

I was watching the Audi Documentry from last year last weekend. I could of swore it was the Ultra last year, too. I know it said Ultra on the fin.

I must admit...I'm not sure what the "Ultra" means. I'm hoping the toyotas give em hell. They need some competition since Peugeot is gone.

While the prototypes are cool, I like watching the slow cars just as much [laugh]

The Ultras are different from last year. They look similar and are based on the same design, but are completely new monocoques according to mulsannescorner.com. I think they may have revised the motor as well since they lost some boost. SOme revisions were made to the aero and they improved the visibility on the Ultra over the R18 (probably as a result of McNish's shunt an hour in last year)

I'm so sad....I didn't realize that my parents were moving THIS week, so I'm leaving tomorrow to go help them. I won't be back home till Sunday.

I am, however, going to set the entire thing to record on my DVR. And I'll have to avoid the internet until I watch it all.

Thus, you'll know why I'm not around for about a week after the race ends  [laugh]

I didnt get to watch the end, but what I watched all day Saturday....this race is becoming boring at least the LMP1 class. With the Toyotas out, there was no real contender. Audi ran away with the class.

I love this race too, but until someone can contend with Audi.  :-\

Was fun watching the vette's and Ferrari's go at it.

I guess it depends on your POV. True, it was only Audi's up front (like the 80's when it was only Porsches) but WHICH Audi would win was still enough to keep me watching. The "old" guys vs. the defending champions from last year who needed to prove they deserved to win. The battle between conventional diesel and diesel hybrids (I'll be honest, I expected the hybrid to break and the #3 or #4 to win, but apparently Audi built a decent system).

Audi has won 11 of the last 13, nothing new. The other teams cannot compete with them, even though the car has changed at least 3 different times. [evil]

That they did and I thought they might take over, but Audi came back strong. The TSO30 looks promising.

I'm still stubbling through the race on the DVR.

I've been avoiding the internet, cause I didn't want to know results...but that only worked for so long. Spoilers got me eventually  [laugh]

Sucks that the yotas were out...and they took out the delta  [laugh]. It was almost comic the way he just pointed at the wall and it hit it. I'm sure it would of been the same with any other car...it just looked funnier with the delta.

The Audi hybrid is cool. The sound of the flywheel in the cabin is very interesting  [thumbsup]

just goes to show TDI/hybrid system in a car would be the cat's meow  [thumbsup]
