Will be there a very short time, two nights. :) We have a hotel downtown Hotel Fifty...so would like to try and be close to that but not a must.
We are looking for recommendations more of a local experience of food. Things maybe only locals know or something to that effect! :)
We went on to Yelp... found Clyde Common, Higgins Restaurant, The Frying Scotsman, Little Bird, Dan & Louis Oyster Bar, Olympic Provisions... I think these are French and Seafood. Also came across Voodoo Doughnut or is their a better place to try? [cheeky]
We like all kinds of food! We are looking for tasty and fun food experiences! Also are there any great Dim Sum places too?
Please give us your suggestions! [beer] Thanks [wine]
Oregon or Maine?
;D
Sorry, I got nuthin'!
I was just there a few weeks ago.
Here are a few downtown spots I went to:
Portland City Grill is good, and has a fantastic view.
Davis Street Tavern was a good lunch spot.
Mother's Bistro had excellent breakfast.
Henry's Tavern - great food for a tavern and a fantastic beer selection.
Voodoo Doughnuts was good too. We got lucky on a Thursday and didn't have a line to contend with.
Pine State Biscuits is a great breakfast spot too, but not in downtown.
Oregon! ;D
Thanks, Randimus Maximus [thumbsup] also have you eaten at any of the places I named?
Mother's is good for breakfast, avoid anytime after that
Fire on the mountain
Hubers
Kennedy School or Edgefield, semi ok food, shit service, good beer
Killer Burger
Eggbeaters... Beaterville... Or some such name
Flying pie
There is this tits breakfast joint up on 24th or so by motocorsa but I've never been there sober so I have no idea what it's called.
Al-Amir
Kells
Republic Cafe
Mama Mia Trattoria
Great! I will check these out! ;D
Saturday is our 5th Wedding Anniversary...has anyone eaten or heard good or anythings about http://lepigeon.com/ (http://lepigeon.com/)
Firstly, coffee: http://goo.gl/maps/OKgm (http://goo.gl/maps/OKgm) Coava, Barista, and Heart were my favourites, but all those places were great.
Foodwise, we had a great meal at Olympic Providores in Pearl District, and another wonderful meal at Clark Lewis just over the river in the SE (which was startlingly close to the Portlandia "Colin the chicken" sketch, if you've seen that…) - but for "authentic Portland-ness" you've gotta eat at a food cart...
Also, if you end up in the south east, The Whole Bowl and Por Que No on SE Hawthorne up near 44th/45th, and Pok Pok on SE Division near 32nd, and Bete-Lukas Ethiopian on 50th just off Division were all wonderful. (Yeah, we pretty much camped out in the SE for a week and a half last year…) Oh, and Rimsky-Korsakoffee House on 12th too...
big
Al-Amir [thumbsup]
Has anyone eaten at
Pok Pok or Screen Door?
Oh this is great! There are so many resturants to choose from [clap] so little time [cheeky]
(which was startlingly close to the Portlandia "Colin the chicken" sketch, if you've seen that…) totally did [laugh]
So much good info here!!! I cant wait to eat, [drink] and explore!
I can see why you would camp out in that area ;)
I printed a "book" of food carts to look at, when Carl looked at the "book" I printed we realized it did not have the locations printed on it, just the images and descriptions. I know I was wanting to do this too.
Heard from locals that Pok Pok was great, but never got there. Went to Clyde Common and had a great piece of trout, and some really good cocktails, but I am kind of a cocktail dork. My favorite place was Oven & Shaker. Kind of a new place, think they've only been open for less than a year. REALLY GREAT drinks, but as I said I am kind of a cocktail dork. Place is very well run, cool atmosphere. Oh, and REALLY GREAT drinks! Had one of the best eggs benedict dishes with potatoes at a place called Northwest Public House on Kearney St.
I haven't been there in a while, but there used to be a killer pizza place across the street from Powell's Books. And of course you should check out Powell's. The largest book store on the west coast.
Veritable Quandary is my favorite place in downtown pdx. If you're in the mood for pizza, Apizza Scholls on Hawthorne is the place.

Screen Door?
Amazing brunch; the fried chicken & waffle never disappoints:

The dinner menu is excellent as well. They don't take reservations though, and the wait times can be excruciating; get there early if you want to get seated in a reasonable amount of time.
^^ That looks awesome!! [drool]
Great pizza, but not really downtown...although not too bad by cab, and a pretty cool part of town.
http://apizzascholls.com/ (http://apizzascholls.com/)
Great breweries all over as well. Portland is to beer what Napa is to wine. [thumbsup]
I wasn't all that impressed by VooDoo Donut. They were good donuts, but not great. They mainly seem to be cool due to the unique combinations they have and the weird atmosphere. Full disclosure though...I was really hung over from brewery hopping the day before, and kind of grumpy that I had to wait in a 45 minute line for a friggin' donut! [laugh] Still, there's a far superior donut place in Seattle if you ever make it up this way.
pok pok was awesome.
There was another place that i always got it confused with that was also really good. (i was drunk when we went so i can't tell you where it is)
decent sushi on mississippi
i'm realizing that most of the places i have eaten are actually nowhere near the downtown area. I have just been drinking downtown. lol
however, mary's is right there and you don't get much worse for a strip club, butthere is a great mexican joint that is kind of attached. a really good beer place across the street from it too.
This is really awesome! Thanks we will keep looking at these!
I cant wait to eat and drink our way through Portland :)
There are some really great suggestions here to choose from. Thanks

but do you get to watch the hipster parade?

"in Sandy"
Sandy is just outside the Liberal Zone of the Portland Metro/Tricounty area.
Hipsters are not allowed to gather in groups larger than 3 outside the zone.

Pok Pok is excellent! The only downside, if it's to be considered such, is that they don't take reservations for this very popular place. The dinner rush can be a good wait.
Hey knight, do you need a ride to mother's hide away from PDX?
Sac

but then you lose half the fun of voodoo
I like Voodoo II. The shop is larger, the lines are shorter and there's a velvet oil painting of Conan O'Brien crying a single tear. Gold.
Here's a good write-up on CNN today. Bunch of good recommendations:

Geez...those Seattle suggestions suck. The Space Needle restaurant is widely known around town as being an overpriced piece of crap. [puke] I can't believe someone from Seattle would recommend it.
Portland is a super cool city from what I've seen. I'd move there...MUCH better nearby moto roads than Seattle. Statistically the weather is worse in Portland though. I thought it was better too (always seems to be sunny when I visit), so I looked it up. They get fewer sunny days than Seattle (which is a real bummer, 'cause we don't get that many). Gets colder as well.
We blame Seattle for that. ;)
This place was awesome.

That's OK...Seattleites all hate Oregon drivers. Which is saying something, because WA drivers suck! [laugh]

I figured out part of the problem with OR drivers. The signs say "slower traffic keep right"
they just don't say what you need to be slower than to stay right.
We had an incredible time! I love hanging out with my husband ;D
Portland and Corvallis where awesome, it was great to see Jacob, Jessica, and after all of these years meet Travis! (sorry it took me so long to post up)
We had lunch at www.pokpokpdx.com (http://www.pokpokpdx.com) [thumbsup]
One of the best dinners we have ever had was at lepigeon.com (http://lepigeon.com) [clap]
We had great oysters in the hotel bar [thumbsup]
We had brunch with a couple of DMF'rs at www.olympicprovisions.com (http://www.olympicprovisions.com) [thumbsup]
We also went to this great new restaurant rifflenw.com (http://rifflenw.com) the food was great and the cocktails interesting and good! [clap]
We had a short but good trip and wonderful food and [drink] and [wine]
We spent almost our whole vacation in the car, it was a road trip and I got to hang out and talk with my husband! Yeah [cheeky]
