Title: Noob from Chicago
Post by: vnmous1 on June 13, 2012, 05:35:45 AM
Greetings.  Just signed up with the hope of re-educating and re introducing myself to the Monster.  I had a 750 Dark and a M900 in the 90s, but it's all been touring bikes since (although when I took my 03 Goldwing to a dealer to simply sell it last fall I walked out with a much smaller check than expected and a 2011 FZ6R between my legs).  So, the little Yamaha bores the crap out of me but it's worth enough to be a nice trade on a good,  used Monster.  Going to look at a S4 Saturday.  8k on the clock and no service records so I'll just assume it'll be another 800 bucks out of pocket just to make sure it's sorted out.

A bit about me; expensive hobbies dictate that I become "professional"  at them so I can afford to play.  So,  in addition to a REALLY job, I teach SCUBA, firearms training, beat the daylight out of a perfectly good car for a quarter mile at a time and can tow a banner or crop dust your fields (that's not a metaphor).

Some would suggest A. D. D.  but I prefer to subscribe to the "variety is the spice of life"  idea.

Hey, if you are familiar with a 01 S4 in the Milwaukee area and know a little history on it,  please shoot me a note.  I have a feeling that I'll be on my own, armed with a printed copy of the Used Buyer's Guide from the FAQ.

Here's to getting back in the Duc saddle again, catching up with the little oddities of ownership and hopefully being able to contribute to the forum community.

Thanks-

Bj

S4s are good, but had an issue with the plating on the valve rockers that would lead to it flaking off, and left to go too far would make a mess of the valve train.... so that's something to watch out for, and with no service records  :-\

And as a related aside - the heads on the desmoquattro are a giant PITA to work on/in...
