i gave the iPhone 7 months...and it just works.
but that's all it does. i am just not getting the same functionality out of it that i was used to with my old phone.
so i'm going back to Android. i am not looking for a debate about Android vs. iOS, just input from anyone who has used the phones I am looking into
i am looking at Samsung Galaxy Nexux, and the Motorola RazorMaxx, _maybe_ the HTC Rezound?
if anyone has any experience with these phones, or other Android models i would appreciate the input.

wait a little while for the galaxy S III
http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxys3/ (http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxys3/)
Samsung is already selling more phones than Apple... and Samsung makes all the chips in the iPhone... they are going to smoke Apple for lunch.
the G-Nexx is a programmers delight from everything I have read...but like most phones...battery suffers...the RazorMaxx has incredible battery life, but may limit some of your customizability in setting things up for yourself if you want something other than what most use...
I too have been looking into Android Smart Phones and am looking forward to seeing more information on the Sony Experia Go...but there is lots to see and read out there...I have been parusing www.phonescoop.com (//http://) personally...

samsung makes (made?) about 25% of the components for the iPhone 4, but the 4s uses less samsung-sourced parts.
they do, as i'm sure you were alluding to, still provide the Ax SoC processors, though i think it's important to make the distinction that those are designed in-house by apple and manufactured by samsung.
i have an HTC EVO... Not specifically mentioned, but it seems like most of the HTC phones are identical, aside from size differences. I like it.
I'm not a "power user" though... I get what I want from it. Email, navigation, phone... and Angry Bird in Space.
I need a new phone too. I have a first gen tmobil htc andriod with a keyboard. I really like that feature. New phone needs better battery life too.
BTW Herm...which iPhone are you using and on what carrier?...just curious...

I too am waiting for the Gs3 to come out and see the battery life. The reviews look great but I need battery life so it's Gs3 or RAZR MAXX.

i have the iphone 4, on verizon. the only reason i went with an iphone was that it was cheaper than the comparable android phone when i upgraded. zero carrier issues. all of my hate and discontent centers around how locked down the thing is.

This.
I've had an HTC EVO Design for a few months and love it.....
Love my Galaxy Nexus! Open and untainted by bs manufacturer skins.
The nexus doesn't need rooting? Does it matter on provider?
Love the DROID so far.. all the pics ya see on here are from it.. vids too.... about 99% of online stuff is done through it..
I have an HTC evo 4g. It does a lot of stuff but man does it go through batteries! I have 4 extras that I swap out throughout the day.
My last phone was a Samsung Instinct. It was the most intuitive phone Ive ever used. How do you like the Galaxy Nexus? How easy is it to change out the battery?
Have nexus - works good, no shortage of apps.
Battery life is a bit sus though.
Speaker is a bit low in volume
For n old fart like me, can even read screen without my glasses on.
No regrets.

It doesn't need to be rooted to get good performance like some Androids form VZW that perform poorly with all the bloatware. I have rooted mine, running AOKP ROM. If you are into hacking your device the Nexus is probably still the way to go, unlockable bootloader, much easier than hacking Motorolas since you can actually replace recovery with CWM instead of bootstrap.
Nice.. ill look into one for next phone.. with extended battery, my bionic last all day with being online and watching hbo, cmax, netflix n youtube between jobs and lunch...
The Bionic is pretty decent, I had one but gave it to my gf and took her upgrade to get the Nexus, nothing about the Bionic specifically, just that there isn't nearly the developer support for it as there is for the GNex.
I went to the T Mobile store yesterday and got 2 My Touch 4 G slides. They were having a weekend special, paid $100 each and now I have to mail in the $100 rebate forms. So, new 20 month contract, 2 free phones, unlimited talk, text, 2 gig of surfing a month. Good thing it came in 2 colors. I even got a credit for 2 free ring tones! When someone calls it is now set to Dick Dale's Misirlou. When L calls Brown Eyed Girl plays!
I have the Gnex and it is one helluva phone.
I have the RAZR Max's and love it. I came from the original DROID. The battery life is really good. If you forget to charge it one day you'll be fine. I also use it a lot for internet about 12 gigs a month, so my battery lasts for a full day or so.
i hae teh razar maxx and its really durable (even in my hands) its really slim and lightweight. No complaints at all. very intuitive.
I have the standard iPhone 4 and am debating the same thing. I really like the music option w/ the iPhone and not having to carry a phone and ipod but seems like for everything other then music the droids are much better. I have heard the next Gen iPhone will have a larger view screen which would be nice.

?? My droid plays music just fine. There are even several "after market" players that function very similar to itunes. And I don't have to use iTunes. Haven't carried an iPod or MP3 player in ages.

Any chance those players can pull songs off my itunes playlist?

Apple will not allow anyone to develop a player for their proprietary format for the Droid platform.
so I'd have to redo the playlist for a non apple player and w/ 8k-10k songs I am thinking that will be a PITA

that's how they GETCHA!
i had an ipod for a while until I realized that. i tossed it and never looked back. a portable music player should not lock down your music so you can't jump platforms.
it's sort of like buying a CD player that converts your CDs so they don't work on any other brand of CD player...
Most of my music is off of CD's and not bought off itunes but to reload them all would be a pregnant dog and a lot of the music is off of CDs I borrowed from the library or friends. Guess I'm stuck LOL
Still might go to droid and just carry a phone and ipod
doesn't double twist do this for android? I've talked to people who say it copies Itunes songs and playlists and you sync it up on the computer.

That would be brilliant.
I'm probably going to pick up the Galaxy Note for my next one, as I feel bigger IS better [laugh]
But, I've put hands on a Galaxy s3....it's amazing. Trust me. Probably over powered for a phone, truthfully.
also, the HTC one is probably close to equal ground for the s3, but the phone has to be disassembled for a new battery to be put in. Galaxy s3 has a battery door.

the S III has a quad core CPU (!!!!!)
we have a Galaxy Tab and it's wonderful even with Android 2.3. I have a G2X and like it (LG made) but next phone will be a Samsung Galaxy

if you have the files, it should be a simple import of the files to get them into a library. specific playlists are a different problem and there are probably some google-able solutions.

according to this review (http://hothardware.com/Reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-Review/ (http://hothardware.com/Reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-Review/)) the us-version will be dual-core and the quad won't be available here.

I can't say that the model I had my hands on is the US spec version (as it was brought in from Europe), but it had quad core.

I hope not. I'm planning on picking up an unlocked S3 this Xmas when I get to head back stateside.
Quick google search and it seems there are a few media players that can handle itunes to droid
Things are looking up
yep and it appears double twist does work. http://www.doubletwist.com/ (http://www.doubletwist.com/)
I've been using the amazon mp3 player on my Galaxy (v1...it's old).
the only thing I've had issues with, is I can't find a good podcast app. I've tried various things...they just kinda suck. I know a lot of people use stitcher, but it doesn't work for me. Mainly, I can't stream things where I live and work...the service isn't there.
If I could find a good podcast app, I'd never be tempted by the iphone. I didn't really like it that much, except that it was a great music player.
As it is though, I've been very happy on android [thumbsup]

my understanding is that the 4g will not work. each company uses a different type. i got a Verizon world phone a while back and with my Tmobile sim it would only connect in 2g.
Ah ok..

1. Open iTunes.
2. Highlight desired playlist
3. Click 'File' tab.
4. Scroll down to 'Library'.
5. Select 'Export Playlist'.
6. Click '.txt' tab and scroll down to '.m3u'.
there you go... "standard" playlist format.

yeah, they can do 3g too.
just reading about it on engadget. They did a little test between the ATT and Sprint spec models. I'm pretty disappointed that it's going to only be dual core, and they're adding the touchwiz UI on it. May go for a Euro, unlocked version if I with a S3.
I still like the Note though. That's my favorite.

iPhone is gone down the road. Android (Galaxy NexusII) is back in the house. just got it yesterday, so still exploring, but i'm impressed so far. just need to load the music in (i stripped DRM from all mine years ago) and re install all my favorite Andriod apps...and some new ones too!

I use google play/music to host all my music on my galaxy nexus, works fairly well. Needs Wifi or 4G if you tend to skip through songs...like me.
Customers told me about a case that's pretty good and shock absorbing.. think it was something other then otter box..
I have an incipio hardshell case on my phone now. I can't tell you the rediculous number of times I've dropped it out of the car, or walking through a parking lot, etc. It's a good case if you find one, and I think it was only about 10 bucks.
Yea now need new phone.. internal crack n black spot on top..
Found a pretty good listing of waterproof cases here: http://mashable.com/2012/04/09/waterproof-smartphone-cases/#580931-EscapeCapsule (http://mashable.com/2012/04/09/waterproof-smartphone-cases/#580931-EscapeCapsule) - I'm currently using a Casio Commando phone (favorite party trick: throwing it across the room & then dropping it in a glass of beer); it's definitely rugged, but slow and only runs to Android 2.3. If I do upgrade, I'd need some water protection as several generations of tough Casio phones have trained me not to worry about rain, rivers, or jumping out of a canoe in the middle of a lake just because it sounds like fun.
Hate that they always have more cases for iphones

I have the Casio Brigade and I do the same party tricks...I was waiting for the Commando at the time, but wasn't patient enough...I am assuming they will come out with an upgraded 4G LTe Commando upgrade by the spring of next year knowing their usual cycle of time, so I am looking out for the details of it coming...
