Hey all, I just did my 15K maintenance and as a part of it I switched out to the DP Cams. For EXTRA fun I decided to learn how to degree in my cams. I am willing to share this info with any who would like it but don't want to write it up if no interest. Please note this is a fairly easy check that can be done when you check your valves (assuming you have a few "special" tools). Of course there are disclaimers in that I am NOT a mechanic and consult with one if you are not comfortable etc. I am just a guy who likes to fiddle around and LEARN something. Anyway as found, my Horizontal Cam was 8* advanced and my Vert cam was within 1* of spec. Please note this was NOT due to changing cams this was due to the 3 piece pulley being put together hastily in a close but not RIGHT fashion at the factory. Now I rode it like this for 15K miles with no issues, but I thought it would be nice to put it in spec ;-)
Lemme know if you are interested and I will throw something together with pics etc.
Scott
when you degree the cam, do you measure of the intake or exhaust side?
I did the intake side
Hi, I would be intrested to hear more about degreeing the cams, and more importantly how they have changed the power on the bike. This is the direction I'm going in myself, I have the cams, just need to fit them or get them fitted.
I think this would be a really good topic- even if you dont find people responding to this thread right now. Of all the topics on this forum, there is not a single one which outlines degreeing cams on new Monsters.
I don't even have one and I'm interested :D
I am going to degree my cams over the winter. I would like to see your write-up. :)
Alrighty then, I will write something up and copy and paste it into here. Give me a few days (or more) as I am still dealing with mapping issues of my PCV.
BRH, As far as how I like the DP Cams I am still dialing in the map on the PCV. the first map it cam with was WAY off and I was pretty disappointed. Now I have 2 more maps and the initial install of the first one feels much better but I have not had a chance to FLOG it yet ;-) I will definitely report back
thanks for the positive input and interest guys [thumbsup]
