hey guys, what in the hell do you do with the seat-cable lock on an old monster during a tail chop? how do you get it undone? do you just cut around it to save hassle? ???
i am a total newb
Your chop should not be even close to the cable lock...are you sure you doing it right? Or maybe i dont understand ur question.
Try searching for the tailchop tutorial with lots of pics or even youtube
i have searched and searched but all the tutorials are for newer monsters or don't say how the seat-lock cable was got around (for lack of better grammar).
pre-2000 monsters have a seat-lock cable that is threaded through the back of the frame and looped out the back end, so you have to get it out of the frame and turn it back under the seat... [bang]
That explains it...
I have recently been acquainted with an 851 framed monster... tail already chopped... I'll pm the workaround.

Post it up here!
I've cut it off my early M900 and will re-locate and get welded on somewhere 'nicer'. Chopped back end will look cleaner and symetrical without it on :)

It is significantly less secure than the OEM setup. I feel uncomfortable discussing it out here for the googles to find.

I disassembled the lock and pulled the cable out of the frame (really easy.) after I did the chop (be sure to tape the frame off so you don't accidentally scratch it with your saw) I just reassembled the lock and flipped the cable around and wrapped it under the seat. Hope this makes since/helps.
i have made the first truly IDIOTIC move of my new monster-modding career [bang] believe it or not, i have managed to lock my seat down while the lock-pully was disassembled. wanted to check how it looked so far.
any ideas how to get the seat back off without breaking anything? ??? i am such a moron...
Pull on the cable.
it's unhooked from the latch
Reach in with a hooked bit of wire and hook the hole in the plastic part of the latch where the cable attaches.
bingo [thumbsup] thanks howly

I did this as well. Works like a champ. I can snap a pic of the finished product and post it for you if you want.
