I had two rock chips in my front window on my car. I filed a glass claim with Geico and they suggested I use Safelite to repair the chips. Everything was online and smooth.
And like a paranoid sort, I of course print out every page of the filing and registration (print to PDF)
Safelite shows up, says yeah I can fix that, and would you like your car vacuumed? and now I have a 6" wide crack in one spot (where there was a 2mm chip) and a 4" wide crack in another spot (where there was a 5mm chip)
He tells me AFTER he's finished that breakage is a risk. I say WTF, why didn't you tell me that BEFORE you started?
I called GEICO and told them to replace my window. They said no, call Safelite. Safelite says no, that they gave me a pamphlet AFTER the procedure which warns of this possibility.. LOL
Anyhow, they are both pointing fingers. Geico says "we notified you of this risk" and I say "I have every page of my claim printed out, tell me where it says that.."
Safelite did not notify me of the risk of breakage. Geico did not notify me of the risk of breakage.
Both are playing dumb.
So I am filing in court next week. With all of my documents.
I will get a new windshield.
Be advised. When you get a "windshield repair" that they can break your windshield.
Before you get the procedure done, change your comprehensive deductible to ZERO. Make the claim, and then do it.
when they are done and it's perfect, change your deductible back to whatever.
My deductible is $250. Guess how much a windshield costs? $250. It's as if Geico and Safelite are in collusion to run up business for themselves.
Assholes.
Meanwhile, I got a quote from Progressive for my cars, bikes and house = $800 cheaper for the year.
Any reason I should NOT switch to Flo?
This was originally a 2mm chip:

Make sure you compare the policies carefully so that you get an apples to apples comparison. Usually if there is a substantial difference then the coverage is significantly less. If they are essentially the same coverage but cheaper, then make the switch.
WARNING: Reading through insurance policies and comparing them is mind numbingly boring. Your health may be affected.
I've had Progressive on the moto for over a year, but I've never made a claim thru them. I have heard they can be a real pregnant dog when trying to file a claim. When I wrecked the bike a few weeks ago, I just paid out of pocket for everything since it was only about $400 in damage and I didn't want my rates to go back up.
I had Flo for my bike...
When I ran into the back of my buddy on his 848...who also had Flo...
they wouldn't pay.
I wouldn't use them on a bet.
YMMV

Yup...
they said neither of us were at fault, and the police report didn't place blame on the guy that pulled out in front of us.
Next time I'll hit the car. [bang] [bang] [bang]
I've had my windshield replaced twice by safelight.. first tech was better then 2nd.. like everywhere depends who does the work.. the glass they use breaks easier then the own glass though.. I have flo also... no issues yet..

You deal with USAA. USAA deals with Progressive.
I've switched back and forth between the two a couple times now. Progressive is usually cheaper than Geico, but they let me down a few times.
Final straw was when a guy in a van made a right turn from the middle lane (I was in the right lane) and Progressive let him go because he claimed his van was a long vehicle... time to install a dash cam in the car.

Ducatiz, aren't you a lawyer? Doesn't that make these guys think twice before jerking you around? When dealing with companies like these I always put "Esq." next to my name. [evil]

yes, i am and the flunky on the phone could care less if i am God Himself.
and putting Esq after your name might be a crime in your state since it's illegal to hold yourself out as a lawyer without a license to do so, so be careful.

Exactly.
Insurance companies have plenty of lawyers on staff.
There is no profit in paying claims, and if they end up litigating it they just write off the costs.
Folk with newer cars - get a price on full glass coverage. I don't have a complete price beak down, but comprehensive for 6 months for my Audi is 134.40 for 6 months with a $1000 deductible. This is in Da Bronx, most expensive place to insure a car in NYC. Unfortunately, two windshield in two years. Fortunately, cost us $0.00. Also, even though your insurance company might try to send you to Safelight you can go where you want. Also, fortunately, there is no cheap aftermarket glass for my car.

You would think?
cease and desist....wait a month....find a sturdy rock with a good heft to it....toss it through your windshield....file new claim call it random vandalism
call safelite for a replace
everything will be peachy

Other than being somewhat more pompous (useful on occassion ;)) signing a name
"Fred J. Bloggs Esq." is no different than signing as
"Mr. Fred J. Bloggs." How does it imply membership of the legal profession??
I have State Farm and love them. We have full coverage for SUV, Truck, Bike, House and a $50,000 add on to cover our toys with $100 deductible. We pay about $180 for all and we also can get one new window per year per car FREE. I live in Colorado so we get rock chips and pitting easy. I have had other company's but never the get service and customer care. It took us about five years to get our rate this low. My wife even backed into my work truck and they did not raise her rate since she had a clean record before. Nicole our agent even sends us a real not mass mailed x-mas card. LOL

Well.. it's a tricky issue actually. The term is not in law, but you'll never see anyone using it who isn't an attorney or pretending to be one.
I have a case somewhere in which a man was using it and was admonished by the court over it. He was sending threatening letters regarding his property and when he showed up in court, the recipients pointed out that he had used it along with the threat of legal action. Court found it was an attempt to appear as an attorney.
So if you sign your library card with "Esq" then it's probably ok.

Say you're latin and add a second last name.
Had Progressive for years. Florida is a no-fault state. No issues with claims. They would send someone to take pictures of the scene. Kinda wish my mother-in-law would have had them when she crashed, she would have saved herself the agony of dealing with the annoying lady and her precious Benz, that you could barely see the scratch.
Never used Safelite. Always had soomeone replace the whole thing. They've actually come to my office and done it in the parking lot. Cost me about $150 last time it happened.

most states will not let you change your name for fraudulent purposes.
A guy back home tried to change his first name to Dr. Yup. "D-R-period"
court told him to pound sand.
I get mail to my house down south addressed to Haywood Djabloemi
who was this fellow Haywood?

not sure i understand this... were the bikes fully covered? as in collision, comprehensive and theft? if so, it doesn't matter WHO was at fault (or not in this case), they have to pay out if you file a claim. sure your rate may go up, but they have to pay regardless. you could run your bike through a brick wall in the middle of a desert with nobody around... if you're paying for comprehensive and collision, they are paying the bill (minus your deductible of course) if you file a claim...
was your damage and his damage less than your respective deductibles?

Neither bike had comprehensive or collision.
Just liability.
The deal was I drove in to the back of him.
I paid for liability insurance.
When I learned to drive, in the stone ages, if you plowed into the back of another vehicle...
it was your fault...period.
We were told he would have to sue me, or I would have to sue him.
We're friends...it wasn't about the money.
He was out $2500 bucks, and I laid on the couch for 4 months.
We can thank the legal community for making our society devoid of responsibility...
and all about the money.

Not true Squire.
Sorry to harp on with the threadjack..... but I cant help it when I know I'm right ;D
I did some homework. And the good news is that you're not wrong either.
I learned that in the USA you apparently regard the suffix "Esq." as having some quasi-legal status pertaining to one's stature within the legal profession.
Whereas elsewhere in the English speaking world "Esq." is merely an alternative - albeit a quaint one - to "Mr." Any pompous pratt is free to use it whenever they sign their name on
anything. Means nothing and is understood to mean nothing - other than the writer holds themselves in slightly higher regard than may (or may not) be appropriate ;).
I'd never heard of "Esq." as indicating "lawyer" until reading this thread.
But I'll remember not to use it when I'm in the United States of America [thumbsup].
Stephen J. Ungeheuer Esq.
Sorry. Have your cracked windscreen thread back now.......... :)
In my wonder bread years my high-class godmother used to send me birthday and Christmas cards with the "esq." after my name
it was a proper form of address in some circles that transcended its legalistic connotation in the States ;D

Your godmother was I am sure wonderful, however the proper address for a young boy is Master, which is how my godmother addressed cards to me (and how my son's godfather addresses them to him...)
As I mentioned, using it for any reason is ok provided it's not done to claim one is an attorney if not licensed do.

My grandmother used to address letters to me as master when i was a kid.
my aunt from england would address it esq.
the way i learned it was that the esquire originally indicated that you were a land owner soyou had some status as opposed to a commoner. (this may have been for the colonies, and the south in particular)

yup I got "master" thru at least the early part of grade school
and was upgraded to "esq" probably around 5th or 6th grade...maybe there was some sort of puberty protocol or something
