Title: Norway twisty tour '12 (+ another August 10.)
Post by: stopintime on July 22, 2012, 02:11:40 AM
I finally found an opening to do this again.
The google map sums it up to ~600 miles/three days - narrow and mostly empty roads [thumbsup]

The two videoIZ are just east of the blue marker dots on the map.
Måbødalen/Vøringsfossen and Lysebotn/Suleskar.
(I need a GoPro and editing skills...)

Going up 3,300 feet - 1st gear turns - not my thing, but enjoyable enough.
Promised two younger Danish guys they would be on YouTube (skip the last part if you want, but the scenery is nice)

Hi stopintime.
Nice pictures, looks like some great rides.

Me and a buddy went for a 6 day trip to Norway (from Sweden) just last week. Our trip went through Skien-Rjukan-Lysebotn-Preikestolen-Odda-Geilo-Kongsberg. Super great roads with smooth curves and very good paving. Not sure how you do it in Norway to prevent frost damages to the roads  [thumbsup]. They are so smooth most of the time. Rode through some twisties as well and they're cool but I'm having the most fun on the not so twisty roads, where the curves are not 180 degrees  [Dolph].

Sorry for the tread jack, hope you don't mind  [beer]

Nice to hear that you enjoyed it  [thumbsup]

Road surface is worse above the tree line (~900 m above sea level) and during spring until it settles in late May.
The trick is to use a rock/gravel base that is deep enough - I think the Norwegian standard is 90 cm/3 feet.

Sandwich shots. Is this a Scandinavian thing? I like it.

In NH they have a different standard...

something like if the rock doesn't protrude past the pavement more than 3 or 4" it's all good. [thumbsup]

I'm getting vertigo looking in my home office.

My wife and I were thinking one of Edelweiss's Norway tours for next year.  This gets me even more interested -- although with my vertigo, not sure how many of these views I'd handle.

This cliff can be viewed from the ferry passing under it - along Lysefjorden (better?)

Tell me if and when you go - I'll try to answer questions and help in any way I can [thumbsup]

You'll need more than that... about 50,000 people in Norway with that name  [coffee] (including me)
