Title: Apple - Mac new OSX mountain lion rlse - jul 25th
Post by: ab on July 24, 2012, 07:34:08 PM
Looks like apple will be releasing their new OS X Mountain Lion on the 25th Jul.

Price - $19.99 via Mac app store.

Highly doubt my 2006 MBP can handle its graphics card requirement.

is it even on the list of supported hardware?

i think the macbook pro 3,1 (2007) is the oldest officially supported.

http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/ (http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/)

Your Mac must be one of the following models:

iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)

Information included with the first Mountain Lion GM now corroborates the connection to 32-bit graphics drivers as the culprit. While Mountain Lion is compatible with any Mac capable of running a 64-bit kernel, the kernel does not support loading 32-bit kernel extensions (KEXTs). Furthermore, Macs with older EFI versions that are not 64-bit clean won't load Mountain Lion's 64-bit only kernel.

I'm buying my first new Apple product in nearly 10 years. Its the I pad 2. I was kind of excited that it had already shipped but what had shipped was the leather case for it. So I guess my leather case will come tomorrow. It's down in Oakland right now.

So I see that  If I want to print stuff from iPad I have to get the AirPort because....you cant just print to any old 802.11 device.  >:(

those pesky printer manufacturers not making print drivers for ipads/iphones... how dare they!?

you can print to printers that support airprint (without an airport), but the printer itself has to support it:

Might want to hold off a bit if you're a laptop user. There have been multiple reports of significantly decreased battery life, many reporting up to 50% decrease:

I upgraded my MBP and was a little underwhelmed. Seemed like the equivalent of a Windows service pack release...

I'm just going to accept that the I pad is good for some things but it's no replacement for a lap top.

No flash. Pffft! Whatever.....
