I dont see why there is any confusion here... the reasons stated (emissions/carbon credits) were known beforehand and was easily one of the major reasons that Audi picked up Duc.

Same difference. VW owns Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, and Å koda. Ducati is just another subsidiary in the org chart.
