Title: Rain and Visors
Post by: cyberswine on August 10, 2012, 06:20:36 PM
Just searched the forum for info on Rain X use on visors and read an older thread which had some contradictory views on whether Rain X will damage the plastic.  Some also suggested using wax polish on the visor.  Anyone have any more current thoughts or experience with either method?

Yes it will damage plastic - Boeing explicitly prohibit using in on at least some of their windscreens.

But…

That chances of damage occurring within normal service life of a motorcycle helmet visor? _Very_ small, in my opinion. I'm not sure I've ever kept a visor much more than a year or two - I've never kept a helmet more than 5 years, and I always end up replacing a visor at the beginning of winter when it turns out to be too scratched up to see through in the rain.

My advice? Use it if you like it - don't worry about it effecting the visor over a 2 or 3 year timeframe. (Maybe consider things more carefully if it's for a spare/backup/loaner helmet that might end up 5 or more years old without "normal" wear and tear on it.)

rain x works great on visors, however, it requires reapplication way too often.

Get a pin lock visor (and insert).  You won't need anything.

I got a pin lock as well. So awesome. Can easily swap out different shades as well and doesn't cost an arm and leg

I use rain-x bug wash on all of my visors for the last five years.  No problems.

YMMV.  I'm stupid.  I didn't even know Boeing made visors.
