I remember reading that when it first came out 2 years ago.
I got a good chuckle.
There's a reason why I live here in Colorado instead of NYC where I grew up.
That article does a fair job of explaining it.

i just moved back to NYC from Colorado (grand Junction) :p
NYC was still marginally fun pre-9/11....had some fragments of what once made it an ok place
post 9/11 the suckage went epic
After Mayor Koch's tenure it began descent into decline...
Giuliani kept things glued together for a while
but set the stage for the new sterile NY
or maybe I just hit an age where I could no longer kid myself
sounds like the author of that Onion article just had his moment of "clarity"
I must have wrote that in my sleep and sent it to The Onion?
I need to stop sleep writing. :-\
And now people complain that south Florida is a crappy place..... go figure.
Ha! I love the Onion.
When I used to commute via NJT to the city I had the Onion app on my phone and a few news apps (CNN, BBC) and usually on the train ride home I would read Onion stories for humor and then move onto real news. But the funny thing was, my brain couldn't make the shift---all the CNN/BBC story titles kept sounding like an Onion title and I couldn't tell whether I was reading a joke or not. [laugh] You realize how absurd the real world is when it's indistinguishable from the satire world.
