Hello all.
I just got hold of a PZ Racing Geartronic2 gear indicator for my Ducati Monster 696 (2009), see at http://www.pzracing.it/catalogo-2/products/geartronic%C2%B2/?lang=en (http://www.pzracing.it/catalogo-2/products/geartronic%C2%B2/?lang=en)
While instructions are provided. I seem to be somewhat lost. Lucky my bike did not explode when I turned it on.
Following the instructions the geartronic cables must match the Monster like this:
Concept ------- Geartronic ------- Monster
RPM Light Blue Green/Yellow
SPEED Green (ECU) Green (ECU)
POSITIVE Red Red/Black
NEGATIVE Brown Black
I could not really make the exact association. (I guess that's kinda important, doh!)
So either I am trying to connect the wires to the wrong place, possible, but I am splicing into the wiring directly out of the display connection.
Or maybe the colour codes for the monster are not correct. Does anyone know what colours are the cables for the RPM and the speed to the ECU?
I sent an email to pzracing but have got no reply, maybe they are on holidays.
I could actually setup the background colour of the display followong instructions. But when trying to setup the gears I get 'Error' on the display.
Any help in any way would be appreciated.
I will follow up with some photos of what's what.
Thanks, and happy biking.
Mark.
According to the manual:
ERROR = shift light improperly calibrated
ERROR 1 = Speed wire improperly installed
ERROR 2 = RPM wire improperly installed
The gear position calibration is done while moving, the shift light in neutral.
Here are the photos.

OK, Thanks I'll take a look at exactly what error I get (can't recall a number).
What do you mean 'the shift light in neutral' (sorry, I am not English).
What I try is this:
1. Bike is in neutral.
2. I turn the ignition key to power on.
3. Before 15 seconds I put the white wire to ground to tell him I want to enter setup mode.
4. The display starts flashing.
4.a) First the top bar starts flashing to configure the RPM gear change level. (not done yet).
4.b) Next the background starts flashing to setup back colour. Done that before and left orange.
4.c) The bottom bar starts flashing to setup the gear numbers. I now put the white cable to ground to configure this.
5. I start up the bike.
6. I put in first gear and off I go. The gear indicator display correctly a '1'. A few seconds pass and the word ERROR comes on the display.
I have re-read the instructions and the only thing I think I may be doing wrong is the 'continue at constant speed', maybe I am accelerating ¿?
I will have to re check the error code.
The cabling seems OK, The only doubt I have is the Speed [Green - Green] association. There is no all green cable on the Monster, only a black/green.
Thanks for your help.
What I meant was with the bike not moving. Since setting the RPM with the bike in gear would require two hands, leaving none free to operate the white wire...
As far as the green... it seems to me that Ducati (and other manufacturers of high performance equipment) are sometimes less than accurate about wire colors.
Try starting the bike before you enter the calibration phase.
I think they are saying he will enter setup mode within 15 seconds from putting the white wire to ground. They imply that the engine should be running when entering setup in the shiftlight instructions, but they don't actually say so.
Well. I have tried to reconfigure the Geartronic2. But no luck.
I engage first gear, the number '1' comes on the display, but after a few seconds the word ERROR pops up, next to the same '1' from the gear.
I tried to make a video, but can never get the camera to point where I want to.
I have the electrical diagrams, so I will take a look at it and see if I get any sense out of it.
I will post any finding I make.
Bye, Have fun. Mark.
