Title: Uber Monster
Post by: ArguZ on June 28, 2008, 09:38:53 AM
Hi guys,

I just heard some rumors about a supermega Monster.
Based on the V4 engine of the Desmosedici RR  :o
Kind of the same Honda just did with the Fireblade based CB 1000 R.
Well...great idea for the Homo Ultima Hooligensis  [clap]
So lets just hope the 696 designer will be tied up in the cellar while they planing it

It will never happen.  The engine is way too expensive.  I doubt they even made a profit on the desmosedici at $72,000.

What about the cylinder for the rear brake?  Doesn't that make it 5?  [cheeky]

6, if you count the Clutch slave.  Add 10 more for the pistons in the calipers....

Yea, I never thought I'd say a $72k motorcycle is a great deal, but in this case it's a bargain. I'd be surprised if Ducati breaks even on it too.

No, you ain't ever gonna see a Monster with a V4 Ducati engine in it. After riding a stock 1098 I was just a little disappointed in the power output. Having said that, I'd love to have a fully kitted version of that engine in my bike.

I wonder if it will be one or two years until we see a 1098 variant in the new 696 style frame. I just hope they don't detune it. That would ruin the whole deal.

A D16 Monster...Love to see it, but I highly doubt it.  In fact, if you go to their museum, the Monster is quite the red-headed stepchild of Ducati...no love.

However, a detuned 1098 Monster to compete against MV's Max Brutale 1078RR...that I can believe:

Your bike has a back brake?  It is a Ducati, right?

the maintenance costs on the valve adjustments would require kidney sales to afford it.  ;)

I think the D16RR has free maintenance for the warranty period...

I remember reading somewhere that Ducati knew going into the sale of the d16 that they are losing money on each unit.  The price was set at what they thought people would be willing to spend, not based on cost of production.

Seeing how the got a shit-tom of orders for the bike and sold out really fast, they should've priced it higher.

yes, but a "mass" produced bike would never have that I'm sure.

I believe the Desmosedeci was more of a marketing idea, than a money making idea. In other words.

I wonder how many more people stopped into a Ducati dealer, after it came out to see it, while being able to see all the other prime choices that are more affordable.

Just my opinion though

I'd be willing to bet money the S4R replacement will carry the 1098 engine. I think that's a given.

NEW monster - the pressure is on. Ducati is gonna step up to the plate and swing hard.
