True story...years ago I worked at a dealer that had the maintenance contract for the local PD...
They said
it didn't make any noise at all when the same condition was found...really.
I need to get around to pulling the head off the Corolla engine I have in the back of the garage.
Drove it home from the city on three cylinders (probably about 100 miles from the point of the initial flashing check engine light and loss of power)
I bet it looks fun inside, I put it back there years ago and never got around to taking a poke inside.
I'll make a point to do it soon and put a picture here. [thumbsup]
Sounds like my 91 Accord. Climbing a hit, #4 piston shattered. Planned on limping home since it didn't put a hole in the pan/block. Two hills later, because the shattered piston bits had gotten sucked agains the sump, #2 seizes, snapping the con rod. It couldn't make it home on only two cylinders. I've never seen a piston shatter like that.

I was thinking the sticker referred to the fact they had installed non-C.A.R.B. compliant performance enhancers such that now the engine throws a CEL all the time (or they pulled the bulb) and they are telling the world they have done this.
I used to own a 3rd gen RX-7, and I have ever lived in Cali. That car actually limited the number of places I could live until I discovered Ducati. Ducati stuff is kind of cheap in comparison... certainly easier to work on.
Hey SP,
You have a shop here in NoVa?
No, just a shade tree on my bikes and the occasional buddies. I just enjoy spectating on disasters like that reddit thread brings.
I'm in the same boat. Friend of my wife calls her because she's got a flat. Ok, not a big deal, I figure the shop used an air wrench and she can't get the lugs off. We go, and it's not that, she just has no idea how to change a tire. The WTF moment? It's flat because she ran the inside past the steel belts. I cut my hand up good pulling the tire and not knowing that.

alot of the racey tuner boys run with a permanant CEL on due to them having modified the hardware and not the software, so the CEL on all the time is like a badge of honor in a weird sort of way...

Having run a tire to the chord as well - it is shocking how quick the tires go once you get low. Wear bars on the shoulders are well enough, but a center wear pit like on slicks would be nice.
I can tell ya how....people are freaking delusional when they think of how much a tire ( much less a set) costs and then factor in mounting and balancing ( not even going into the potential of an alignment and issues there )...they are generally outright sticker shocked and decide to not spend it until they get a flat...we see it here all the damn time...because they upgraded to an SUV with big wheels/tires from their old Corolla and think that the tires should be the same money...add in the brainwashing of possible pricing from bad marketing of reality from places like Pep Boys with loss leaders that don't apply half the time....
Oh you've seen my tires... no delusions about the cost of those suckers. :-[
But yeah it amazes me where people cheap out. A neighbor with a freaking jag and Range Roomy in the drive took weeks after I pointed it out to replace a tire on the Roomy that had bubbled on the side. I was just waiting for it to not reappear for a few days, and then do so with a brand new tire and rim after a blow out.
I have part of a piston out of a Yamaha RD at home. I'll post a picture later. makes that look usable.

For some reason, this gives me a new perspective on engine failure. I guess I always figured broken piston= loose connecting rod=jammed against block=hole in block...I never really figured the rotating mass would spin long enough to see oil starvation...

They ratchet
The reversible ratchet wrenches serve an important purpose.
When some short-sighted jackass fails to check and see of he has enough clearance to back a bolt all the way out of the hole it's in, the reversible wrench has the ability to turn it back in far enough to get the wrench off.
A non-reversible ratchet wrench would just be stuck on the bolt.

I'd counter that it's a good day at the office.
A bad day for the customer (although he/she may have been having a lot of fun when that happened).
;)

I think every mile happened a while back...
And now the chain's shot too.

I think that chain was done some time ago.
From the look of the swingarm I rapidly deduced that it is not just the chain and sprocket that is shot.....
That's some great work right there.
I'm impressed.

I'm not sure that the owner cares.
Or maybe he's apathetic.

Other than a weapon, I can't think of anything else it could be useful as except for art projects.
Seen segments used for door or drawer handles
I've got a bottle opener that's made from bicycle chain and a segment of a chain ring

I bought an old jeep several weeks ago, and the ignition key came on a homemade keychain made of 3 links of motorcycle chain with a ring through one of the end link's rivet holes.
Pretty cool.

I used to have one like that myself for a couple of years.
Interesting. I have a few links of new chain from cutting to side. I just might have to make me one.
