Title: Clip-ons for S2R 800
Post by: psycledelic on June 29, 2008, 06:42:49 PM
I am gonna swap my bar out for a set of clip-ons and was curious if there were any suggestions on what brand to buy, or more importantly, what brand not to buy.  It is for a S2R 800 with Marzocchi fork.  I like the looks of the Rizoma, but don't like the price.  Any other suggestions?

Well the Rizoma set includes a top triple and preload adjusters - though on your bike there's no way to actually use the adjusters.  But the price isn't bad for Clips and a triple.

There's some good info left on TOB

On set that isn't covered there is Apex.

And of course 50mm clips from any other bike would fit as well.

Giles ones are the most adjustable ones that one can currently get (it seems) but you pay for that.   If you can find cycle-cat, they are adjustable without rotating the bars, giles too

Sato and Apex allow you to adjust the down angle of the bars - but it means rotating the bar, which means losening all your controls, and possibly redrilling for your throttles 'nubbin'

i had some of the older (3 bolt) Vortex clips on my 620 and they were solid.  The newer pattern from Vortex looks a bit nicer than what I had.  There's a few other similarly utilitarian clips out there.

i put Tommasellis on my S2R, got them from the great folks at monsterparts.com. They are priced right and very adjustable.

I got Apex

They really sucked to put on, but I think I would do it again. The coffin reserviors make it pretty hard to do but I rotated to they brake lines around on the banjo bolts and it was do-able. I even got my fairing back on. ;D And if you ever get the bike tipped over no tank dents [thumbsup] (Mine are pretty low, and yes it's been knocked over twice.)

Ah, I was looking on PJ's site and thought the triple was just to show the mounts.  I should have payed more attention.  I figured the adjusters were useless, but are they still mounted, or just left off?

Thx for the link and the other info

Muscovy, thx for the pics.  I see those mount on the legs, under the triple.  Bad ass look.  How is the riding position?  Looks like going from one extreme to the other.  I would have to assume the Rizoma's would be somewhere in between.

Anyone have a link or a pic of the Rizoma's installed for a comparison?
