Hi everyone! My name's Shawna and I just bought myself an 07 Monster 695 a couple months ago. I ride it everyday on the highway to work and back (50 miles roundtrip), and on the weekend in the canyons. I hope to make it out to the track next year. She's the perfect size and weight for me, not to mention absolutely gorgeous. I love this bike!
I'm a new rider -- started in January 12 on a li'l Honda Rebel. I've probably ridden about 4000 miles total at this point.
Hope to see some of you out on the road!
Welcome.
Lots of other SoCal folks on the board here. The local area section is
http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=21.0 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=21.0) - I think.
So, now for my usual, new older monster question. Do you know the maintenance history? Specifically, do you know how old the cam belts are? They are supposed to be replaced at 12k miles OR 2 years of age. Lots of times on used ducs, they have not touched the 12k mark, but are past that 2 year mark.
If you're not sure, belts are about $80 for a set and aren't hard to install if you're sufficiently DIY savvy. IF not, shouldn't take a shop long. And you should do this sooner if you're not sure. A little prevention now can save a lot of hurt later.
Over the 'winter' you might look though there and search out some of the suspension improvements for the 695. They share a lot with every monster since the 2002 900 - so if you see something for a 620, 800 etc etc it should do for the 695.
Then, you can have a nicer ride for the track!
Thanks for the tips! The timing belt was changed at the 15k service by the previous owner about 8 mos before I bought it. I'll check out that SoCal board now!
Good to go then! Enjoy
cheers to you, too!
See you around LA, I am riding a red M796 :)
Shan't see me unless you come visit Washington, D.C.
Welcome! I have a long commute as well. I go from Irvine to Downtown LA every day (50 miles each way). Luckily I have the bike! My commute is <1 hour vs. almost 2 by car.
Wow, that must be exhausting, Shamoo. Though, I'm applying for a job in Santa Clarita that I wouldn't have even considered before I got my bike!
Welcome to the board and congrats on the purchase!!
I'm in LA as well and try to hit the canyons as often as I can, usually with a pal on a cruiser. If you're ever in the mood for a ride let me know!
Thanks! Will do!
Welcome.
