I'm sorry you lost your friend, Kopf, but truly am grateful for him and all the others who choose to go into the military. I am a big nothing by comparison.

An update on my buddy James. First off he was injured in an IED blast last month, was flown to Germany, repaired and cleared to go back to the box when he stepped on the land mine.
"He is doing good all things considering. I've been with him every step of the way here and have rarely left his bed. He got into to our location around 10 last night around 4 1/2 hours post blast. When he came here he went straight to the OR for a wash out and wound assessment. Injuries are as follows: L Leg below the knee amputation. Approximately 3 inches below the knee. Doctors are unsure as to whether it will stay below the knee but we are remaining optimistic. Right Thigh was pretty heavily peppered with shrapnel. As a result he has a large open wound to his right thigh. Also, Pelvis was fx on right side and bone fragments from the fx penetrated his bladder. They were able to repair the bladder lastnight. He lost both testicles. His penis is intact but with an avulsion. Urethra is intact and doctors were able to pass a foley catheter, which is awesome. Hopefully he will still be able to urinate on his own. His left forearm was also peppered but mostly superficial. He ring finger and middle finger on his left hand sustained a partial degloving but nothing serious when it comes to above the waist line. He is vitally stable and his heavily sedated for pain. As a result of the heavy sedation he is on a ventilator and most likely will remain that way throughout his travels. I was the first to notify Tiff. It was requested by James before he went under. Following the blast he was taken to an FSE where the initially stabilized him. They said that when he arrived he was coherent and answering questions. They actually asked him his weight and he responded with I was 225lb but now we can say 200lbs. He's a trip. Anyways, I was bedside all of lastnight and even though he was heavily sedated I was talking to him. They say sometimes they can hear you. There will be more to follow Deke including expected stay time in Germany. I should find out more when he gets out of surgery today. He will depart here roughly 1630 to head up North before heading to Germany. Pray for him. It's going to be a long road. I'm going to continue to keep Tiff updated I insured her. It looks like I'll be pushing out to his site to fill his position so I don't know how long I'll be tracking him. I'll let you know. Later"
War sucks.

I think they have it under control, just trying to get him back to the States.
Stay strong man.. raised glass to the fallen and hope james recovers well... my friend of 15 years died due to a botched surgery... diabetic, fractured heel, doc didn't fix it right.. screws came loose and caught and infection. Had to amputate both legs.. eventually went into diabetic coma after sugar levels hitting a thousand... passed a month later... its serial talking to ya buddy while in that state hoping they can hear you...
Mike will be laid to rest tomorrow, I can't make the funeral. On the 8th, 3rdGP will be doing a ceremony for him, the other 3 3rdGP guys and the CAG operator that were killed that day. We will be heading down.
James is still in Germany awaiting transport to Walter Reed.
Heard from my boy James today.
"Walked about 500m on day-2 of having my new leg. Staying ahead of the pack and pushing forward toward the goal of getting back to a team."

That's great news.
God speed.

My boy James showed up at the Range today. He has had 39 surgeries to date, 9 more to go. He looked awesome and is crazier than ever. He was sporting his $80,000 leg and told me he's been looking at a Monster.

I thought about that, but I've decided to keep it in Mike's thread. James could care less, he's alive and doing well. [drink] Mike would be happy.

No doubt. This one is amazing, it has a mechanical knee. There is a battery in it and when James toe comes forward it gives a little kick that helps him move the leg forward.
