I'm looking to buy a used Ford F-150. 2006 or 2007 4 door 4WD. Is there anything that I should look for in this model and year? Anyone here have one that they could tell me about? What are the known issues? Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you.
Some of the 5.4 engines suffered from issues with the cam phasers.
That said, I had a 2004 for 8.5 years and had no issues whatsoever. Zero. Nada. Never in the shop, gas and go, best vehicle I've owned to date.
Just remember u r not buying for MPG's. I bought my first ford 5 months ago and love it

It has got to be better than what I have now. Does it do better than 15 MPG on the hwy?

Mine routinely got from 17.5 to 18.5 highway.
I have an '08 2 wd.
I get close to 20 on the slab.
It's a 4.6 though.
It's been a good truck so far.
also the spark plugs are an issue ..sometimes they split when removed a pita to fix

I have a 10 screw 5.4 6.5 max tow I get 13L/100km towing 15/16L/100km
I've got an 06 supercrew 4WD, absolutely love it. Only repair I made was replacing the passenger side mirror because I had a "width problem" once ;) other than that, change the oil every 5k (I use synthetic) and put gas in the thing.

the 5.4 should get that on the hwy, slightly better actually but remember to look at the gears. My f250 gets 20 on the hwy and 17 or so in town. ;D

There's a pretty slick extraction tool for that issue now, not a big deal.

sick.0? This is an option as well, but everyone says "STAY AWAY FROM THE 6.0L!" Is it that bad?

The 6.0 needs about 2 grand worth of work to make it run in an optimal capacity. I personally would stay away and if urgent permits look at the 6.7 which is what I have. 800 lbs of torque at 1,600 rpm is awesome. You may also consider the Eco boost 6 in the f150, I was impressed and there should be some used ones by now. My purchase was in anticipation of a toy hauler so I went with overkill so I'm not limited in what I can tow. If you look at the used truck market versus the new trucks you'll notice it's almost better to buy new. Dealers deeply discount trucks and in my case by 10k. If you pair these rebates with interest financing at 1.99% you will likely have a similar payment. Just remember if you buy new to never be upside down so buy smart.
I'm looking to sell/ trade 2 vehicles and keep my loan under $12,000. I can make that a three year payback and get a rate of 1.49% at my bank. The loan is approved, I just need to find a deal. I'm going to look at a truck in Harrisburg PA Friday or Sat. Getting all of my paper work together in time may be a challenge. I also need a way to get both trade-in's up there as well. I could always sell them localy as well. Ill see what I can get?
I found one! the PA deal did not work out. Then I was working on a deal for a truck in northern Ohio. That deal failed as well (I had to walk away). (side rant)BTW: Whats up with dealers and all of the lies? The sales people that I had to deal with all sucked! None of them know anything about cars. It was very sad. I only looked at Ford dealerships as well. They should know the product! I could not find a single knowledgeable sales person at any of the several dealers that I had visited. Are consumers just as stupid? At one dealer they told me a great story about how the truck that I was looking at came from an employee on a trade. The Carfax report showed that it was a salvaged vehicle bought at auction. Another dealer claimed that the truck was a "certified non smokers vehicle" there was ashes all over the interior and butts still in the ash tray. The lighter was missing as well. The smell was horrific. WTF! I had to walk away from three deals due to dealer lies. the dealer that I finally bought from also lied to me. I was able to track down complete service records on the truck though. I had the real story before they fed me the BS-sandwich! I called them out on it and the reply was " the tuck is sold AS IS, so it does not matter anyway" WTF! I should have walked away on principal.(end rant) I got a good/ fair deal and took the truck home. Thanks to all that posted a reply to my questions. Here it is:

King Ranch, good choice [thumbsup]
Wow nice truck ...luxo ride !!
Thanks! I love it. This truck has a few small issues. I have a little bit of work to do to make it a very nice truck. I need to add back-up sensors/ cam. It also has a shifting issue. At speed while in low RPM as I step on the throtle it trys to down shift. Im not sure if this is a bad sensor or a shift solenoid. Ill give it a look this weekend and try to fix it next week. I have never worked on a Ford trans. I have no idea what Im getting into with this one. I replace the shift solenoid in my old doge. It was not hard. I hope this truck is just as simple.

The best this truck has done so far is 16MPG. That beats the dodge! ;D
Now I just need to figure out this shifting issue!
Mine was a regular cab shortbox FX4, so it was a tad lighter. ;)
Nice rig. [clap]
Indeed, great score!

Thank you. I posted the issue there and they think that it ould be a spark plug/coil issue. I saw that it could be a shift solenoid or a re-flash of the control unit. Im going to service the trans this weekend Ill also look into new plugs. If that does not fix it, then I'll look at the solenoids and re-flash.
I just got the wierless back-up cam and it is not as "wireless as you would think". for this amount of effort, I wish that I had got something a bit better. This will due for now.
Thanks for all of the info! This has been a great help.
Enjoy. The KRs are sweet rigs.... [thumbsup]
Thanks! My wife seems to agree with you. She takes it every chance she gets.
