It is a beautiful statue, if you can go visit the Vietnam Memorial.

If possible go to Arlington Cemetery. It'll bring you to your knees.

We leave today. They are taking us over to the house floor for a special surprise, then if we have time, we may get to go to that air and  museum before e fly back.

And yes......we did not get groped by TSA agents on the flight here.....I'm pretty sure we'll be roughed up by them later today on the way home.

Years ago I visited an old girlfriend that lived in Washington DC and she showed me around.
Some of my favorite sites were:
  Capitol building
  Jefferson memorial
  Air + Space museum
  Vietnam memorial
The Vietnam memorial was a seriously powerful emotional experience.  :'(
My brother used to go out with/live with Maya Lin,the woman who designed the Vietnam memorial.
She could be a real be-yotch sometimes but was a good artist with an even better design sense for almost anything.
At the time, people complained about awarding the final design to an Asian girl but she was as American as anybody, raised in Ohio where both her parents were college professors. Her brother was very smart too, both were a little nerdy.  [laugh]

the expanse alone awestruck me...then finding my grandfather brought forth the tears to bring it all home.
