This Diavel was wearing the same colors as my S2R. I, for one, do not like. What do you guys think?

It's marginally less unattractive than a regualr Diavel, but it's still not my cup of tea.
I don't care how well it rides, it's still a big goofy cruiser.
Reminds me of the Porsche Panamera...

I'd like to see that in the Black & Tangerine (orange) color scheme.... [thumbsup]

You know what, I LOVE the back of it, and I love that huge wheel. It's the over-proportioned front I waffle on, it's just so bulky up front. I'd own one though, for sure, if I had the $$$ for another bike or ten... lol

This paint job looks bad IMO. The all carbon black or carbon red are the only ones that look OK.
I agree that's it's uh, different looking. Goofy? Nah. Spanks all monsters and streetfighters in pure muscle and torque. Handles as well or better (due to the DTC and ABS) then both as well.
Just too big & bulky for me.....

How the heck would "electronics" (anti-wheelspin, anti-skid) make it handle (turn in,trail brake, transition side to side) better?

Because you can ride it to the edge and beyond. The DTC hides lots of mistakes and road surface issues. There are no side to side transition issues, it feels much smaller then it looks.

hbliam,
Is this an observation based on back to back experience with all 3 of these bikes?
While I might agree that a Diavel will handle MUCH better than anything in it's class, I can't see it out handling a streetfighter.
Faster, yes. Hell Ducati was telling us all how much faster it was than a 1098, but handling wise...
I don't know.

It's just my opinion. I've ridden all three on the street and the Diavel was much more forgiving due to the electronics. The SF is skittish. I'm also more comfortable in the Diavel or monster riding position then the SF or even the Panigale.
[popcorn]
Would like it better if all the gray would be replaced by red.
I'm sure the Diavel is a great bike. Unfortunately, I think it's butt ugly and looks like a retro vacuum cleaner. Its appearance does not reflect the name.

the 'bulk' disappears when you sit on it. I think the stripe looks good on the tank and tail, the front looks goofy. Maybe if it was carried up the wind deflector...

I doubt very much that it handles as well or better than a new style monster.. and DEFINETLY doubt that it out performs a Street fighter. If that were true, by your logic, a diavel should beat a street fighters lap time on any given track day in side by side comparison. Well, we all now thats just ridiculous. DTC, ABS, launch control.. etc, etc, etc, are rider aides. They prevent you from making mistakes. They interpret bad input (rider) and forward proper input to the ecu in question. They dont make you a faster rider. They just protect you from yourself as best as they can.

And the systems aren't just about rider input. They help maintain traction when presented with poor or differing road conditions. Ducati wouldn't put these systems on their race bikes if they weren't getting better lap times.
My comment was a general one. The Diavel handles as well or better (due to the electronics) on the street as any of the monsters or street fighters I have ridden. The seating position and setup helps as well, lower center of gravity, huge rear tire to plant off of.
BTW. Have you ridden any of the bikes in question?

You got me there. I have not riden the diavel. I do own an m1100 with clip on for quicker steering. And I have rider a 2011 Sf, which seemed WAY faster and more "flickable" than a old R1 I used to own. However, Ive never riden an f4i, but I KNOW i can get the f4i around a track faster than a diavel due to its geometry , ground clearance and overall design. In retrospect however, I realize where the debate is. The word, "handles" is very general and it means differnt things to different people. It seems like for you, "handles" means comfort and ease of use. For some others, like myself, "handles" mean "ease of transition, lean angles, how it behaves in corners while accelarting thru the apex, etc, etc".
Im sure the diavel is an awesome, super comfortable bike to ride.. likely blazingly fast in straight lines. Personally, id rather a smaller bike, with no dtc or abs.. that I can dive into a corner, trail break.. get back on the gas .. through the apex and hit my markers, and if the shiny side is still up.. its because I managed to keep it up, not the computer.

My version of handling is more like a mixture of both of your examples. The Diavel behaves in corners better then any monster I've owned. It launches out of the corners better as well, like I said before, planted. The brakes are better as well. The DTC and ABS allow you to do everything you say is important to you, just at a more extreme level.
I'm happy to have the computers help me keep it shiny side up. That little extra bit of confidence inspiring techno makes the Diavel that much more fun. I have a Panigale now. It's dead solid in corners and stupid fast but unusable power on the street.
I've ridden and owned many Ducati's. The Diavel is the only one I regret selling.

Not arguing. Just informing those that haven't ridden a Diavel that its a pretty damn good bike. Not better then, but not worse either.
And where is this new found wisdom from? Aren't you the Panigale hater?
Some of the discussion on this thread goes back to the debates about rider aides. For example, if given the choice of having a bike with or without ABS, I will choose the one with. And here come the guys that will say that I'm either a pussy, can't ride a bike or not their cup of tea. I say that I'm not going out there to try to kill myself, so any aid would be appreciated.

I was of the camp that didn't want the rider aids, until I rode with them. You can actually be more of a hooligan with them then without.
I hate rider aides. I think they make people ham fisted.. why not? you cant ever lock up the breaks anyways? I recently saw someone lockup the front, almost tucked the front.. This was a new rider with an MS (with abs, so he says). he gets off the bike and says,. "my god the brakes are powerful on that thing (suzuki gz250)". I said no, it just doesnt have abs.

bottom line is this, the diavel is one UGLY freaking hunk of a bike. and i've ridden one, and it was no fun. when you sit on a bike like that it should be heavy and feel like it's made of iron, and it should be someone else's, because it should be a harley. the diavel feels like plastic. lame.

I didn't think this post would go 4 pages deep despite the polarizing looks of the Diavel. Considering I haven't driven one I can only comment on its aesthetic. In that red with white stripe and white wheels combo, it looks like it's about to transform.
Instead, what I'd love to see done to the Diavel (as a one off) is reduce the bulk up front, lose those cans, forward controls and rework the tail, getting rid of those vertical tail lights. The kind of transformation I have in mind is something like what Roland Sands did to the Yahama T-Max - maybe less "mad-max" like.
