Title: Passenger hand grips
Post by: Wanwo on July 01, 2008, 01:05:14 AM
I've never ridden pillion on a monster. For anyone who has, how are the hand grip bars for holding on? They seem a bit low to me. Thinking of adding some kind of additional bar (but don't want the big Monstrack backrest).

That's what you're there for, for her to hold on to...

i'm pretty sure that you're the safest place for your passenger to hold on to.
just make sure they hold onto you and not just your gear.

When I bought my Monster, my wife was concerned about the position of the hand grips.  Until she rode on back, the concern suddenly went to the lack of back seat.  Needless to say, I took the footpegs off.  She said to check back with her when I purchase something equipped with a sissy bar.  She is gonna be waiting a while, cause the 848 is on deck.

My fiancée preferred my Monster to riding on my Suzuki GS1150.  The 1150 had a much nicer seat, a slight sissy bar (just enough to bump with your ass) but she didn't like the big step between the rider & passenger seat.  That and the Monster was way smoother power delivery.  A cammed up 1150cc motor kind of explodes when it comes on the cams ~

ya, I can't reach the passenger hand grips on Ducatiloo's S2R, so I just hold onto him.  I think it's probably less jerky to hold onto the driver than the hand grips.  Holding forward seems more stable than having my arms downward.

unless you are taking an ape for a ride. They are way too low to be comfortable.

one arm around the rider, the other hand against the tank takes care of most forward-backward movements.

amen!!  i usually call them "love handles" but whatever.

definitely get her to hold around your waist.  it was better before i added the clipons and there was enough room between the tank and "me" that her hands could fit down there.

+11ty billion. I used to be a passenger on a monster for a year and this is the best way to hang on.

Also for more riding you might look at the Monstrack backrest (http://www.monstrack.com/backrest.html) for longer trips.
