Title: Canadian monster eh
Post by: acto on December 24, 2012, 08:21:17 AM
Hi all
My name is Anthony and I live in Toronto Canada.
I've had monsters since 2009. I started with the 696 for about 6 months then up graded to the 2009 1100S Monster. I have had a lot of riding on her and a few track days. Aside from termingoni slip ons I haven't done much mods.
Last fall I added a 2008 1098 to the collection. After riding the 1098 all summer and taking it to the track....I found I really enjoyed the extra power and handling I experienced with the 1098.
This fall I got a great offer on the 1098 and sold it.
I now find I really miss it. So I'm gonna start to do some mods to the monster to try and add some sportiness.
I've ordered new clipons and I'm gonna remove the bars and top triple. I'm thinking also about adding some new rearsets and steering damper.
Any other suggestions?
I think that there is an 1198 in my future as well. Working on a deal.

Thanks for listening.  Sorry about the long story.

Welcome  [thumbsup]

Have you had the suspension professionally set up for you and your requirements? That would help a lot to improve the sportiness. Clip ons and rear sets aren't for everyone, but they might be right for you.

Enjoy the Monster and good luck with a new superbike!

No I haven't touched the suspension yet. I'm been reading a lot about it and I'm anxious for good weather to get it setup.

Er you mean the handle bar clamp? Removing the top triple will make the bike no worky!

Before you spend on parts - see to that suspension especially if you've been and continue to track her. Even if it was street only, it's well over due for new oil in the fork and shock. If you're really diligent about it, the forks should be on their 3rd or 4th dose on new oil.  Get them serviced and setup and your lap times will drop

My fork oil after about 8 track days - yummy!

Beyond getting them serviced getting them tweaked by someone in the know is a wise investment. Don't know about there, but here a local shop comes to track days and will do a base suspension set up for $45 at the track and you can come back for tweaks all day.

Ha....I'm not removing the triple all together....just replacing it. And yes....I have had the forks serviced and oil and seals replaced. Suspension setup here runs about $60. Gonna get it done this spring
