I remember when I was at Ft Lewis, 1986, he took command of I Corps, and pretty much the whole post marched in review for the change of command ceremony. He was usually spotted driving around in the GM prototype for the HMMWV.

I fininshed his book "It Doesn't Take A Hero" a few months back. He seemed to be a great man.
