Need some decent sport on TV that doesn't require a 6 to 12 hour offset to watch.

I'm just pissed that the ESPN Winter Classic was cancelled as a result.

I was hoping to attend as my Red Wings were going to be playing as the fore-fathers intended...  OUTSIDE.

Just really turned off that it took THIS long to come to an agreement....

I suppose my being turned off will fade as the games come on the tele.

Yeah. This was a real bummer. We planned on going to the game at UofM stadium. Would have been epic do to sheer size.

Pens looking good. Another game tonight. Can't wait.
On a side note, I had the glorious opportunity to work with the penguins organization on revamping and redesigning (to a point) their official website over the extended off season. It was probably the most fun I've ever had working: http://penguins.nhl.com (http://penguins.nhl.com)

Especially since that was their biggest weakness heading into the season.

Good win tonight over the Wild, however.

Good to see Bert back & I think this Brunner kid might work out okay.

i forgot about this thread.

it only took 2 years, but philly finally beat the rangers!

as they are playing like complete shit this season that will most likely be the highlight.

on another note, i'm wondering how bad the injury report will be after basically playing 5 games a week for 3 months.

This will definitely be a concern across the league as the season is typically spread out out over a longer time span.

is it just me or are most teams running very hot and cold?

i know the flyers are just plain sucking so far. i think Bryz is the best one on the ice.
i am happy about the result agains tthe islanders though. 7-0.

That just means there there will be a beat down of epic proportions delivered soon. And we'll probably lose Giroux, Bryz, and a player to be named at another time in that game.

i figured it was french canadian for habitants or something. meaning citizens or inhabitants.

good luck with that. i disturb the neighbors during playoffs.  [laugh]

Habs is an abbreviation of "les habitants," the informal name given to the original settlers of New France, dating back to the 17th Century. So it's a natural fit for the The Montreal Canadiens, established in 1909 and marketed as a French-Canadian hockey team.
Having said that, the nickname might have been the result of an error. According to NHL.com, the first man to refer to the team as "the Habs" was Tex Rickard, owner of Madison Square Garden, in 1924. Rickard apparently told a reporter that the "H" on the Canadiens' sweaters was for "Habitants." Not true. The distinctive C-wrapped-around-H logo stands for "Club de Hockey Canadien."

383: The number of "hits" the Blackhawks had been credited with entering Tuesday's game, the second lowest total in the NHL. That right there should tell you everything that you need to know about the hits statistic in the NHL and how much it means to winning games. It's tough to hit people when you always have the puck. You know what else happens when you have the puck a lot?

You score a lot of goals. Speaking of which ...

75: The number of goals the Blackhawks have scored

50: The number of goals the Blackhawks have scored during 5-on-5 play

15: The number of players who have scored at least one goal.

12: The number of players who have scored at least two goals.

9: The number of wins they've received from their backup goalie, Ray Emery. He won 15 over a full season a year ago.

7: The number of games they have won by at least two goals. Which is actually kind of surprising.

5: The number of times, including Tuesday, they have scored at least five goals in a game.

- New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal will be sidelined indefinitely with a serious eye injury he sustained after being hit in the face by a puck, the team said on Wednesday.

Staal was hit in the right eye by a deflected puck while playing against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, an injury that saw him collapse on the ice before skating off bleeding.

"The injury has improved significantly and (doctors) are optimistic that Marc will make a full recovery," the Rangers said in a statement.

I agree but the big thing is that the Wings are back in the East which will dramatically affect the playoffs (if they make it). The travel schedule alone killed them. I also like Wings/Leafs rivalry which will certainly reignite.

Caps in the 2nd round of a shoot out... eesh. Causin' the house here stress

Lundqvist took a hell of a shot in that game. Slap shot right to the mask - hard enough that it kocked him off his feet and that rattled him enough that he went wobbly after getting up after the initial impact. Tough mofo - kept everything out until the shoot-out even after getting blasted in the face.

Joe Pavelski, who makes a habit of embarrassing the Red Wings, gave up a weak turnover to Columbus who then scored with a minute and a half remaining in the third. This puts the CBJ well ahead of Detroit and means the Wings basically need to win 4 in a row to be in control of their own destiny, or win SOME and hope others lose.

Columbus over Detroit. Someone tell Ken Holland that making moves at the trade deadline can make your team better.

Etem's goal was was as bad for the Wings as the goal off of Smith.

As an aside, is it just me or is it ironic that the 2 (arguably) dirtiest players on the Ducks were the whiniest pregnant doges after the last Ducks penalty?

I'm just happy they beat the Ducks.  I'm even happier that they didn't blow another lead and have to leave it to OT.  I can feel my hair getting gray every time they go to OT.

They played Chicago tough all season, except for one game.  The other three were all OT/SO losses.  I think this is gonna be a good series and it'll probably be closer than most people expect.  Plus, the Wings also have Joel Quenville's number.  He hasn't beaten them is the playoffs in 5 tries.

Well, it was a tale of two games tonight.

Toronto proved that it can set records in the postseason by being the first team to give up a 3 goal lead in the third period in a Game 7, ever, and lose the game. The defensemen should be tarred and feathered for completely abandoning their goalie in the final 5 minutes of the game.

The Rangers, on the other hand, proved that if you play together as a team, you can play a nearly perfect game, two games in a row.
I did 5 celebratory happy dances during the game.
Nothing made me happier than seeing Ovechkin hanging his head for the vast majority of the game.
He's a useless tool of a player.

But then again, I grew up as a Ranger fan, and I'll always be one.

GO RANGERS!!!

BC.

First, my fiance's wedding band finally arrived at the jewelry place.

And finally, capped off with Detroit being voted off the island by the Hockey Gods.

At times, way beyond any communication.

Didn't see games 5, 6 or 7.

IMO, the 7th-seeded Wings taking the top- seeded 'Hawks to game seven in the second round was a big success for a re-building team.

What a great game. Two games both going OT...there is no better way for Cup Finals.

the officiating (both ways) could be a little more consistent...

I think they're spooked by Rask. You see it all the time against a hot goalie. Guys start pressing, holding the puck too long, etc.

Great news out of Hockeytown the last few days.

Yesterday, they announced a new 3-year contract with Pavel Datsyuk.

Last night, their top minor league team, the Grand Rapids Griffins, won the Calder Cup.

Today, it was announced that a framework agreement had been reached to build a new arena for the Red Wings in downtown Detroit near Ford Field and Comerica Park.  http://www.freep.com/article/20130619/BUSINESS06/306190099/-650M-Red-Wings-arena-proposed-near-75-Woodward-video- (http://www.freep.com/article/20130619/BUSINESS06/306190099/-650M-Red-Wings-arena-proposed-near-75-Woodward-video-)

All good!  [thumbsup]

agreed  :'(

This series was the bruin's season in a nutshell.  They can play strong defense and shut teams out, score goals with the best of them, but they can't seem to close things out in the third. At least it was to the hawks and not some crap team.
