Title: on the road again...updates are new pics
Post by: KnightofNi on January 10, 2013, 05:24:53 PM
this might not work out as well as i would hope, but here is the list of cities that i think i will be stopping near each day. I don't plan on doing much driving at night and i'm planning on I-10 so I can avoid weather at higher altitudes in places such as flagstaff, az.

Louisville, KY 1/13 (probably late)
Little Rock, AR 1/14
Somewhere slightly west of Dallas, TX 1/15
Las Cruces, NM 1/16
Phoenix, AZ 1/17
Possibly somewhere near Santa Barbara, CA if I need to break up the last day.

If anyone could possibly help out please let me know. I get on a plane to pick up the truck on Sunday morning!

weather between memphis and nashville cut my drive short today.

currently in jackson, tn.

i have never enjoyed driving a car with a purely asthetic heater so much

trucks of this era were not designed with long distance trips in mind.

everyone loves a hot rod.

Mr I bought one heck of a head turner.

PICS!

What I gathered from him after he brought it to the shop is that the alternator didn't appear to be hooked up to anything. I'm thinking it was a one wire (I hate those) that vibrated loose.

He made it pretty far on just the battery!

just got a decent internet connection again. I'm in Phoenix tonight and everythng has gone pretty well with the truck. Only 1 door fell off!  :P [laugh]

i'm trying to upload some more pics to photobucket now and will put up a link to the album later.

i had a guy in a wrx sti pull up next to me drooling over the truck and then floor it to share exhaust notes. it was humorous.

also, i have worn pants every time i drove the truck. though it has warmed up now and i can get awya without wearing them.  ;)

a word on the alternator. it was hooked up correctly, it just doens't have much to power so they kept it simple with the 1 wire system.

A 1 wire jobby needs to get excited to produce a decent charge. AKA, rev a cold engine up to make it do the needful.

Probably why I hate the fookin things.

i debated changing it over to the ford version, but that would require a regulator and basically rewiring the ingnition. we decided it would keep the truck looking cleaner and require less time and money spend at the shop to get it done. especially since i had been ther since 9am.

I pondered getting the bodywork & paint done before Mr. I purchased it...  But I opted not to b/c it just looked 'right' to me as it sat (sits still).  Patina and what-not.

Cool pic though despite it being focus-challenged.

sadly, my time here comes to an end tomorrow.  :'(

it's been a wonderful time out here, you guys have some amazing roads to play on. don't take them for granted by being asshats please.

i have one more ride to take tomorrow and some video to capture so this is my penultimate update to this thread

Thanks again to mr and mrs i for allowing me to stay here after finishing my part of the job. I'll be back at some point. I'll be sure to make my reservations in advance ;-)

so here are the pics. some are from my cell phone, some are left odd because i liked the way they looked. some i took a lot of and forgot which one i liked best so i uploaded multiples and not all of them are good. lol
