to come on down the night before and ride the piney hills with him. Who wants to ride out on a Saturday afternoon and ride Sunday then slab it back home?
When?
not sure, talking to him now and am going to make him pin down a weekend. Keep you posted but there's a Holiday Inn express there.
Ok this sounds like a good idea to me. ;)I've found several good loops I ride out here on FM roads with decent twists. I'll start scouting out some towards Palestine that look good on the maps. Good news is the trucks don't tear up the roads like in DFW area [thumbsup]
There is a LaQuinta, Best Western, and Comfort Inn (all just a few years old), and the county is no longer dry for those interested, and for those not interested too :D
Stay tuned for more info [coffee]
Sounds like something we would be interested in [thumbsup]
I can do this [thumbsup] sounds like a fun short trip.
Interested, just say when. Any good BBQ joints around there? [drool]
Most definitely a possibility.
Maybe.
I will for sure if I can.
Probably.
I would be interested as well. Quick, pin down a weekend so I can book it before someone else books it for me. [laugh]
Dan?????

Yes, Subway makes a good 12 incher ;D maybe a homemede brisket is in order, mmm
Feb 2, 3 is fine with me, or the 9, 19 weekend too. The weather is the only factor stopping me.
Check your schedules and pipe in, and be ready for the usual pregnant doging to begin [popcorn]
Feb 9th works for me. All other weekends in Feb are booked :'(
Is this an over-night trip?

Overnighting most likely as its 2.5 hrs from N DFW including rest stop or two. This is assuming using Jacksonville as the hub.
Alrighty then [thumbsup]
I can do Feb 9th.
Feb 2 works for me, I am out of town on the 9th.
Looks liked may have found some more roads to make a decent circuit for a ride here.
I'll try to get on them tomorrow (Palestine back to Rusk) and see. How can I resist with great Jan Texas temps! [Dolph]
I rode a southern route to Palestine today and the roads are good (new roads for me) all two lane and mostly no shoulders, but that's the norm.
Then rode the way back on 84 to FM747 to Jville. These roads are very familiar to me but now on a sport bike, holy cow! I had a great time! [Dolph] ;D on 747 I looked down and I'm hitting 80 - 90 on narrow curved road! I guess that I'm familiar with it so fear got off the bike and I had a blast!
Now I just need to scout out the Western FMs South of Lake Palestine and I have little doubt ill like these too [drool]
BTW, the motel info was off as the map was. I'll confirm before posting corrections.
Have you picked a date for this? ;D
A date? Well, the Monster wants to go, but Motard says she will carry stuff on her tail rack (nice rack too) ;D
Seriously, the 9-10 looks good except for Stan. Of course the weather needs watching.
I can do the 9-10th, but I think we would miss 'spoke and UJ, so the 16-17th would also work for me.
sorry cant do either
If a group can come down a later date, that should be cool with me.
I wonder if there is a Streetfighter begging to go [evil]
Great minds drink think alike. [beer]
then pick the following weekend and I'll drag Stan's sorry ass with me.
Don't wait on my account :-\. I will try to make the next one with the streetfighter.
Actually, I usually have more cash flow mid-month. Sorry to use you for a beard. [roll]
Looks like its the 9-19th. BTW John, "use you for a beard" ? ???

That's 10 days, Dan. :o You must have quite an itinerary planned for us. [Dolph]

A beard is a person who is being used by another person to cover something up, in this case, my usual first-of-the month financial embarrassment. :-[
turns out I can't do the 9th either. [bang] I'm in Miami through the 12th and forgot.
Is the 16th good for everyone, then?
Just checked the weather and it looks cool on the 9-10.
For the record I did post last the dates of 9-19 8)
Ok, one more try then, 16-17. Not Super Bowl weekend and maybe good temps will
Get a good turnout. [popcorn]
It'll be the 16th before you know it. We're already a week closer to it than we were when this thread started. [cheeky]

No go for me, but I bet we can organize another Ducati raid on East Texas in the near future [evil]
This is like herding cats... [cheeky] The 16-17 weekend is a good one for me too.

how's this route?
That looks like a good cruising route for sure. I've been scouting curvy ones S of Tyler to avoid [leo] and am about to ride to L Palestine through Poyner and South to Palestine.
I figured about 200mi as was suggested may be good.
I'll post back later regarding today's foray. [Dolph]
Thanks for input Dax!
Okee dokee. I put in 100miles and about 15 were slabbing. Found another batch of nice roads
N and S of Poyner and around S L. Palestine. Saw about 20 cruisers and one rice burner having a good time.
Mostly no shoulders but good pavement, hills, pines and little cages. [Dolph]
Next ill add up the miles and such. [coffee]
So roll call for the 16th...

Lodging choices?
I did a search for rates on the three new hotels here but got some conflicting info. I'll go in person mañana to verify. Hotwire listed one for 49.00 and ill try to see which one that is.
I mapped out a route for 140 miles. I'm trying to get my google map to link here. [popcorn]

Here! [leo]
and still in.
Lodging: Holiday Inn Express (newest), La Quinta, Comfort Inn, and Best Western are all fairly new and decent. Hotwire gave a rate of 49.00 which is one of these four (they don't tell which one until its paid for). All are on US 69 in town. Beware of the one (Americas Value...) on US 79: old and badly managed.
So two and a half people? [thumbsdown]
I was wondering about that. C'mon people, my wife and son are going to San Antonio that weekend, so I need to know whether or not to board the dog.

What kind of math is that? Don't make fun of my height! I don't mind springing for an extra room if needed.
It was directed at Pinocchio. ;D
Lets see if this link works to the map
https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=208577974442853387156.0004d51a1f288693e6ac3&hl=en&ie=UTF8&t=v&z=10&vpsrc=1 (https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=208577974442853387156.0004d51a1f288693e6ac3&hl=en&ie=UTF8&t=v&z=10&vpsrc=1)
The link works. Looks interesting. I can't figure out how to compute the mileage in Google Maps, so I'll try to get it into the GPS and check the POIs for ethanol-free Shell stations ( [laugh] ).
Will we need to top up and have a bite somewhere, say, near that waypoint NW of Lake Palestine? If so, I'd be willing to pack a lunch to make it a quick stop and get back on the road. [Dolph]
Really looking forward to this. ;D [thumbsup]
It's about 150 miles. Unless we stop in Palestine (decent Mexican grub) we are on our own.
I like the idea of bringing along food and stopping where we want. I can pack a bit on the Motard. Local Beef Summer sausage is very good. Bread, cheese, fruit and drinks and we are set.
[drool]
Maybe a cigar in the mix as well ;D
I'm not going if we have to drive out of the way for ethanol free gas. Get a metal tank!
The routes look really good, hardly any straight sections [thumbsup]
Monday blues. I am on call this week and found out I have to work early Sunday morning, so no road trips for me this weekend, sorry.
Have fun at work if u can. It should be sunny and dry anyway, who wouldn't rather be at work?
8)
I'll see if I can scare up the three local Duc owners this week. One Monster, 1098, & 696 from what I know of. [Dolph]
And my sorry ass is going to be in Atlanta. [bang]. I hate working!
I live here so ill be around. John you're still welcome or maybe a group can make it at a later date and come down then.
I would like to make this trip...
SO! if it's getting re-scheduled, let's make it sometime in March like the weekends of the 23rd/24th or 30th/31st? ;D
March is still good for me. I'll keep riding new roads. Next in line are the ones around Rusk as I've only ridden a few of those.
You DFW Ducs plan on 23 or 30th and post up.
Either date should good for me, although I hate to lose this weekend's forecasted sunny weather. [bang] Hopefully, we can get a large turnout with this much advance notice.
Someone post up a local DFW ride. John is right, the weather is good for it [thumbsup] [Dolph]
I'm wondering if I put an ad in the Tyler paper if Duc owners there will respond. Assuming there are owners up there. ???
Shoot, if there are four in Jacksonville then Tyler should have more than that.
That's OK, Dan. I need to pay my fuel bill this month, instead of running it up some more. March should actually be better riding weather, if the Spring floods don't come.
