Title: Appalachian Trail
Post by: kopfjäger on March 01, 2013, 07:59:28 PM
One of boy's wife just finished the trail yesterday from Maine to Georgia. Took her 6 months, she got caught up in the blizzard, so she got slowed down a bit.  [bow_down] 2,200 miles.  [drink]

That's a seriously awesome achievement.  My first hiking goal is to become a 46er (Adirondack high peaks).  I only have 43 more to go...

:D

That is a daunting accomplishment    [clap] [clap]....especially when you get down to the Tennessee areas in the deep Smokies....it becomes near mountain climbing

I lived close to the Trail Head in North Georgia and did some day hiking there a few years back....holy crap

that ain't no waltz down a nature trail

Bill Bryson wrote a pretty entertaining book on his attempt at the trail.

I've always thought that had to be one of the oddest book pitches ever - Bryson going to his publisher, pitching a book about how he DIDN'T hike the AT. Funny book nonetheless.

Congrats to the boy's wife!   [bow_down]

I have nooooooo desire.

A friend of mine did it years ago - took about the same amount of time.  Upon completion, he promptly got the "AT" tatt.  Not being one to get inked, I would likely change that if I did the trail.

What's her next adventure?

Not sure what her next adventure is, but she'll have time as he's gonna be busy.  ;)

That is awesome.

She have any stories?

I'm still not finished with this thread http://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=57236 (http://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=57236) 145 pages of mostly creepy outdoors stories...

Maybe we should have one of these threads?

My buddy and some of his friends were hiking on the AT in Georgia a number of years ago.  They were puttering around setting up camp in some remote area when a rustic individual stepped out of the brush and said, "Ma says you all are to come to dinner now"  They went and it was creepy.
