Title: Ipad mini insurance
Post by: ducpainter on March 02, 2013, 07:55:44 AM
The boy just got a new ipad mini.

This is the same kid that has successfully drowned two uninsured ipads...at this point I figure insurance will be a good investment.[bang] [bang]

Looking for recommendations on insurance companies based on both value, and actually paying claims without the typical BS. I realize Apple is an option, but I don't really want to pay for the support that's included in their plan.

I dunno, but the kids I see in the classroom have covers on the ones they use , that according to the teachers make them pretty indestructible.

Two cheap options:
One gallon zip lock?
No more ipad?

His first one was in an otterbox defender, as is this one. :-\

I wish those were viable options.

Have anything less sarcastic to offer?

The Frogskin case says it protects against water intrusion.  I didn't see that feature for the Otterbox...

Frog Skin

Perfect for making your iPad 2 water resistant, dustproof, fingerprint resistant, and protected from stains
Keeps your iPad 2 safe and dry using a soft and stretchy thermoplastic polyurethane cover
Perfect for going to the beach, fishing, or enjoying your favorite winter sports

Since the Frog Skin appears to be a deluxe condom, maybe you could use it in conjunction with the Otterbox?

Lisa also just suggested  sealing it in a foodsaver/seal-a-meal type vac bag.  You could prolly use that in conjunction with the Otterbox as well...

Don't see a frogskin available for the mini.

The otterbox screen protector already darkens the screen. I'd be afraid that the foodsaver plastic, which is kind of opaque, would reduce it even more and make the screen tough to see.

Good ideas though.

I'd go with Apple care, the other things they can do as well as replace a product are worth it.

I'm working a new contract right now and have a few kids with them. Let me see Mon if they have anything different from the one you have DP or the ones listed.  Protective covers that is.

I've used Square Trade for iPod insurance. Fairly reasonable. The mini looks to be $99.00 for 2 years.

Disregard my previous post. Apparently Lifeproof cases for the mini are not available. Try this one:

I don't think Applecare covers accidental damage. I believe it only covers device failure past the standard warranty period.

If you buy from Best Buy store, the protection they sell covers pretty much anything, drop, water damage, device failure, etc.

Applecare covers 2 incidences of accidental damage, and is $99 which extends the basic 90 day support and warranty to two years.

Then go with that.

Last time I remember checking into that was 1 year ago. Maybe things changed.

Sorry for the delated response. No I've never made a claim but I remember reading their guarantee and thinking it wasn't a bad deal. Who knows?

If the ipad is a long term investment, get a all proof cover. If you're sure you'll be replacing it in the next 2 years, get the warranty.

No sarcasm.

Ask my kids about their third PS3.......oh thats right, there isnt one, and there wont be one.  They didnt take care of the first two even after multiple warnings.

The good part, aside from spending much less time in front of the tv, is they now take care of their stuff.  Reminders are necessary but they know not to be careless or take things for granted.
