Hey guys and girls.
After finishing 10yrs if study I've decided to treat myself to a trip to visit the west coast of America.
I'm pretty excited for this as I've never been. Im heading to San Francisco, Vegas, LA and then a short time in Cabo Mexico.
While I'm there it'd be cool to get some riding gear, maybe even some stuff for the bike. I just wanted to hear some suggestions from people from those areas of where to go.
I've done some research. It seems cyclegear in SF has a lot to offer but I'd prefer to leave the shopping to LA at the end of my trip. I just couldn't see many places

You'll find Cycle Gear stores in just about every (bigger) city and a few guys here who work/worked in them. They typically great deals the last time I was in there on their name brands. IIRC Bilt and Cedici? Check out their online catalog. I'd also hit the local Ducati shops, for clothing with their store name on it, like Beverly Hills Ducati.

Yes, Dainese in San Francisco. Well, at least there was a few years ago when I was at that store.

+1 on Dainese store. Huge selection and good to go to even if you aren't buying because you can try on gear so you know fit, feel, etc for when you order back home.
Not sure your route, but highly recommend taking highway 1 (aka the PCH) from SF to LA (or visa versa). Gorgeous and lots of nice stops on the way (e.g. Hearst Castle!).

+1 on the PCH and Hearst Castle. I'm not usually big on tours, but that place is awesome! They also give you a small bit of freedom to look around, and don't rush you through the place. It's pretty astounding.
where are you coming from?
probably not a big deal to go to a Dainese store if you're from Italy.
Get yourself some In-N-Out Burger while you're there.
does cycle gear even sell anything anymore besides Bilt?
When do you plan to be the "LA?" and where, roughly, in LA? It's a huge area.

I was going to suggest Pro Italia as a stop, but it's about 20 miles away. Not super far from West Ho, probably 40 mins unless there's traffic.
I think SoCal DMC still hosts IBN in santa monica every wednesday.
Either location is a day trip to either the Rock Store or Newcomb's Ranch.
West Ho is real close to Beverly Hills Ducati if you wanted to find some branded stuff.
Depending what you're into, Perri Ink Cartel and TriCo are kind of in that area. Look them up online to see if it floats your boat.
As much as it pains me, Del Amo Motorsports is near LAX, which is kind of a motorcycle superstore type place. Not sure what they have by way of gear.
When you know when exactly you'll be in town, consider posting up in the SoCal forum and we can probably dig up some local moto events.

i have to admit I dont know much about LA besides its huge. I figure best to stay a little inland to lower travelling times and get the most out of it. Its gotta be better than staying Venice Beach right?

I don't live in LA proper, I live in Orange County so I can't really say. Maybe some of the LA hooligans can chime in.
While you might have longer drive times, you may also find that near the coast everything tends to be closer together.
A lot of it depends on what you want to do or see. There are so many different experiences you can try, it's tough to say one way or the other... beach, urban, mountains, rural, desert... name it, we have it in LA, OC, IE, or San Diego.
If you just want some site-seeing type stuff, I'd for sure suggest Hollywood but also Griffith Observatory. If you're here during the right time of year you could take in a concert at hollywood bowl or pacific amphitheater, a musical/play/opera at any number of places, ice hockey, basketball, baseball, horse racing, pro soccer(football), American football, arena football, indoor lacrosse, supercross, surfing tournament(?), car shows, lowrider shows, bike shows, ... i'm sure there's more.
tl;dr: need more details about your time frame.
