Title: Advertising Clients from Hell
Post by: triangleforge on March 06, 2013, 09:15:27 AM
Though I've almost always been on the other side of the design equation, I've always tried to respect what a good designer does. For me, these are cautionary tales; for those who live by creating for the commercial market, it's "Creative Catharsis"

http://sharpsuits.net/Home (http://sharpsuits.net/Home)

From the description there: "Ad creatives, designers, animators, directors, illustrators and more took time out to dress up their favourite worst feedback from clients, transforming quotes that would normally give you a twitch, into a diverse collection of posters."

One of my favorites:

i don't do advertising, but I have received feedback similar to those.

Especially the "I don't know what I want, but I'll know when I see it."  How some people become senior management, I'll never know.

i've actually had the comments about using lorem ipsum enough that I've stopped using it.

In my business I get a similarly annoying response when I ask the client how much they want to spend.

I deal with marketing people almost daily (unfortunately)...a couple of weeks ago:

"Yeah, that's what we're looking for within our budget, but if we could spend more and get something nicer, we'd be interested in that too." [bang]

Oh yeah - this afte explaining that all the text shown is filler gibberish.
'What is that funny text? Can we remove it?"
'That's not the text from our site, why is it in the designs? You'll make sure that's removed before the new version goes up." - in reference to image comps

This is one and it's cousin "... The General Public" I used to hear often enough that it still makes me twitch:

No lie.  this actually happened to me again Friday.  You'd think I would've learned by now.

I was demonstrating how text color can impact comprehension and I had different lines of lorem ipsum in different colors and someone said "The latin is too distracting."

So I changed it to some lines from Romeo and Juliet.
