Having ridden dirt bikes for 20 years, I recently succumbed to peer pressure & purchased a 2009 Monster 696 & have completed a 3 day tour of the NSW Snowy high country from my base in Shellharbour. I now have 2 steeds chained to the floor - company for the Sherco SE300i-FR. Never had a bike where I could sit on it with both feet flat on the floor. Loving that part. Road riding takes much less time to get over as the body isn't pummelled nearly as much. Planning a 4 day weekend in May, 2013. Just need some adjustable levers (sorted), move the forks up slightly for some faster steering & get some new brake pads.
Welcome Andrew.
This is a great place.
Check out the different sections including Ozmonsters in the local club board.
Welcome!
Suggest you check your tire pressures and adjust the rear sag (preload) to match the front before you play with the rake. Newer Monsters steer pretty quick already. ;) It's not a trials bike. As a new rider you may induce some high-speed instability for which you may not be prepared. Not saying you can't raise the tubes 10mm; just give it a few more miles before you try that.
