Anyone know if a filler cap base from an ss tank (99-02) will fit an ss tank from 96?
I think they should fit, but I come up with different (very similar) part numbers.
I have an old re-keyed cap with the Cagiva elephant on my '07 Monster. I do not know the year they stopped using the elephant. The basic round shape caps must have stayed the same for a long time.
Thanks fellas
The caps are all the same, even for the injected bikes with the cap retainer as well as the plastic S2R tanks. They used the same cap on the 851 and early SS.

My 96 came with the cap with the elephant.
Will the base (the part under the silver ring) come out of my monster tank to then place into the ss?
Or is that part of the tank on monsters because it doesnt have the internal pump and filter?
Im looking at this for the ss tank: http://www.ebay.com/itm/220642132108?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/220642132108?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648)

Is your bike a carby? IIRC it is, and you will need that ebay part for the SS tank.
Yes it is a carbie. The question is, does the eBay part listed detach from my monster tank (forgot to see if there were those grub screws).
If not, no big deal. The listed part is cheap but I figured I'd ask seeing as y'all know I hates waitin fer parts to come in the mail.
If I understand the question, yes it does detach.
Google is my friend

If you're sure the set screws are completely removed, stick a hammer handle in the filler opening and give it a whack with the palm of your hand. Keep your other hand underneath it to avoid denting the tank.
If those screws aren't completely removed you'll damage the tank.
You can cycle the pump, but it really doesn't mean much without actually testing for pressure.
It seems my monster tank flange will come out with a bit of work and will go into the ss tank. Yay. Thanks again guys.

Unless you want your cap to fall inside the tank. ;)
